tell me my engine is not junk
i did a compression test today, each cylinder was +/- 150 on my gauge. i did not do cylinder 7 i could not get the gauge in there, will try againg later.
cylinders 1-6 around 150 all close to each other maybe 1-2 pounds different.
my problem is cylinder 8 has 0 psi on the compression test gauge, what could this be?
how could i test it more?
is it the cylinder or the head?
maybe rockers to tight and keeping valves from sealing?
thank you for your help

Hook up an air compressor to the cylinder and listen for air leaking in either of 3 locations. Exhaust, Intake, and oil fill. Also remove the valve cover and look at the valvetrain. Pretty easy to determine where the problem is.

Yup agreed, what he means about the valvetrain in to just make sure the cam is on the base and both valves are closed before you test.

Zero pressure suggests valve not fully closed.
Most likely an exhaust valve.
Old car needing valve work does not make the engine junk by a long shot.
Just means its going to pick your pocket. But, its an old car, and you knew that already.

I just fixed a push rod and lifter on that cylinder. So I'm hoping I put something together wrong I'm going to check it here in a minute. I will let you know

Oh , colapsed lifter may be you should have used a used one . if its tapping it may fill itself up after running a few min . wait that doesn't sound rite....... you may have not adjusted the rocker properly. yea that sounds better ,but why did you change the lifter in the first place ?

Re: tell me my engine is not junk
Sounds like you tightened that rocker WAY too tight, and the valve is getting held open.
It's amazing sometimes, how helpful a little "history" can be, to zeroing in on problems. First thing to do is, ALWAYS go back and check your work.
