this is a good 1,,,,need help

I have a 91 1500 4x4. the truck runs well and shows no codes. Say i have a half tank of gas, when i get on it from a dead stop it boggs out after moving about 10' but comes right back and drives fine the lower my fuel gets the the more it happens at all speeds. right now theres a 1/8 of a tank in it and i cant drive it without adding gas thats how bad it is. fuel pumps either work or they dont is what i have been told and it has a new filter in it. anyone have any ideas? thank you

check the fuel psi with a gage. if low psi or you see the nedle mouving all around you ether have a leak or your regulator is bad.

also you level may not be accurate half may be less than 1/4 and 1/4 may be empty or almost there

and the pump could be on its way out too the fuel cools the pump and the lower it gets the hotter it can run

it's a 91 so it's a tbi engine. the pressure regulator is on the tbi unit. you can get a regulator repair kit for about 20 bones. Pumps can be bad and still run the engine. You can also check the fuel pump current draw by putting a meter in series with the fuel pump test lead jumpered to bat+ should be aroud 8 amps. the lower the current draw, the worse off the pump is. also, the hose between the pump and the sending unit assembly rots and will split leaking pressure back into the tank. You should put a gauge on it and check the pressure.

Ditto on the gauge it will tell you if your pump is getting weak.

They usually just dont go out most times you get some warning and yours sounds like it has the symptoms of one. Checking that line for splits is a great idea also

Billy, since this site is dedicated to 82-92 F-bodies, you might Google your truck for a site more appropriate to your needs.

Best of luck with your project,

even though this is "thirdgen".org the amount of chevrolet tech knowledge on this site is soo great that we have surpassed almost every other chevrolet forum. it would be rude to horde the knowledge for those who only drive 82-92 fbombs.

Re: this is a good 1,,,,need help

what size fuel tank? ur guage might be off, my 1990 454 ss c1500 has the big tank like urs should have and if i try to get on it from a stop under 1/3 tank it bogs and falls on its face, just low on gas is all most likely, i hate that about mine im bout to put a smaller tank in the damn truck lol, but when i only get 8mpg that might be a terrible idea!

Sorry, flattery will get you nowhere. As James noted, this is for 3rd gen f-bodies. If the topic was limited to the TBI system, we might be able to accommodate the question on the TBI forum. But, not issues that do not relate to 3rd gens.
