No idea if this is the right place to post this or not but here goes. I have all new a/c componets for my 89 iroc (compressor, condensor, evo canister). My questions are:

1) How are is it to change these parts (the system has already been drained as I had it tested for leaks, of which there were many, and they sucked all the freeon back out)?

2) If I install them my self is it going to hurt them if I drive the car to the shop to have the system charged as long as I don't turn the ac on?

 

Also remove the orifice tube and flush the evaporator and install a new orifice tube. Add some pag oil to the condenser and evap before assembly, maybe 1-2 fl oz. Make sure the compressor has oil. It will be fine as long as it stays sealed.

 

I have a new evaporator (silver canister on the heater box correct?) but which one is the orifice tube?

That's the accumulator. The orifice is inside the line from the condenser to the evaporator.

 

Mine has already previoulsy been change over to the new 134 freeon if that makes a difference.
