Car wont start and parking lights stay on?

I just swapped in a new motor in my 86 Z28. It was origionally a carbed LG4 motor and I replaced it with a 400 small block. This isn't my first time doing an engine swap and its not my first camaro. That's why this is so frustrating. Ive hooked everything back up and I have two problems. 1st the parking lights come on when the ignition switch is in the on position. Second Im getting nothing from the starter. I tested the starter and it is fine. I can arc the solonoid and it spins. I tested the purple wire from the solonoid and it getting power. I tested the orange in line fuse wires to the starter and they are good. I tested the alternator and it is good. The fuse going from the battery to the fuel pump is good but Im not getting any sound that the fuel pump is turning on. I checked all the fuses under the dash and they are all fine. I checked the grounds from the battery and from the block and I have good grounds. The distributor is getting power. I can not figure this out. Does anybody have any suggestions? or have you ever ran into this problem before? Thanks for your help.

That's pretty weird. Can we assume none of this was a problem before the engine swap?

It is possible to have voltage from the purple wire at the solenoid but the starter won't engage. Voltage drop through the various connectors and switches will do that. I gave up and installed a remote solenoid, which popped the starter with near-battery voltage. You did put the purple wire on the solenoid terminal closest to the engine, right?

By the way, what starter did you use?

Sounds like you've got problems beyond that, though. Only way to get voltage from the ignition switch to the park lights is a leak from a switched circuit to the park light circuit, and that would seem to have to be from wiring. What all did you take apart during the engine swap?

'86 LG4 with an electric fuel pump. Interesting. Must have been the dealer-installed vapor lock kit. They didn't come from the factory with in-tank pump until '87. The pump gets power through two relays, one for starting and one for running (I think - not completely familiar with the vapor lock kit, but that's the way EFI 3rd gens operated). The start relay would be timed. Shouldn't have been disturbed by an engine swap, but we need the answer to the question in the paragraph above to better judge that.

Re: Car wont start and parking lights stay on?

Thanks for the reply. The car was completely virgin before I took out the motor. I labeled all the wiring before I started unhooking anything. I plugged back everything as it was except for the smog pump. I reused the origonal starter. It has an intank low pressure fuel pump that pushes fuel up to the mechanical pump. Before the swap I could hear it kick on when I turned the key on. Purple wire is on the terminal closest to the block. Ive gone back through checking wires and grounds and everything seems hooked up correctly. Im sure its something simple I just gotta solve it. Any more Ideas I would appriciate it.

Re: Car wont start and parking lights stay on?

Hey everyone
i have al toyota prado 2004 with 1kz te engine . I drove it yesterday and everything was working.an when i tried to start is today it was swinging only so i checked and found that there was no diesel comimg to the injectors so i checked the pcv valve and it was working good. Then i tried whit another computer box from another car and it started but the electric gas pedal was not working. So then i thout it is the computerbox because the other one can start it but cant open the trothhle body and the old computerbox can open it but cant start. But later when i tried to find out if maybe there is anything else wrong i tried to unplug en plug back all the boxes . Then when i tried to start the car back on it wont even swing and the parking lights are on and a clickin noise under the dashboard.
hope for reply
