Hello Gear heads, The longer i own the more i need to know. And i love it!
But heres the issue.

I have a 91 3.1 191 cid V6. The exhaust manifold needs to be changed.

I would like to plug up the hole that connects the inlet pipe to the ex manifold. But im not sure how that will make the car run after wards.

If youve done this before on a 3.1 V6 and know the results for a fact.

I'd love love to hear what you have to say about my wanting to do this over replacing this steel inlet pipe.

I cant find it anywhere ive looked .Its a special form of steel and nothing plastic out there is gonna feel right installing to the ex manifold as hot as that gets.
Basically recirculating exhaust gases is not something that i feel helps my engines performance.
It helps the enviroment. Since i have a 91 and dont have to qualify emissions in the state i live in. How would this make my engine perform?

I'd appreciate any help i can get but would prefer that you know what the result would be. Before answering this question.

P.S. It's not that i dont care about the enviroment . But i feel if anyones that concerned about the enviroment than they should poke a hole in their muffler pipes. To give mother natures creatures a chance to run before your 3 inches away from them . Because they cant hear your enviromentally friendly machine getting ready to squash their little heads all over the highway Have a Sweet Day!

 

Can you be more specific ? Are you talking about the egr?

Yes the Air inlet hose or tube that comes directly off the exhaust manifold (right side) as a part of the egr system.

If i plug up the hole that comes directly off the exhaust manifold. How will the car run.? That hole in the ex manifold connects a hollow steel pipe for an egr related air inlet.

 

Um, there are 2 fittings on the pass side exhaust manifold. One screws into the manifold and the other is bolted to it. The one that is bolted to the manifold is the EGR tube. The one that screws into it is the AIR tube, and the only way to delete that is to get some sort of special plug that I've only seen come with replacement manifolds OR to get a non-AIR 2.8 manifold from the junkyard.

Keep in mind that replacing the manifold is going to be a pain. Expect to break bolts (M8x1.25). Hopefully the bolts won't break off inside the cylinder heads and require being drilled out (which requires removal of the head).

IF you are referring to removing the EGR flow, you can just put a flat piece of metal in place of the EGR valve. But you will need to expect the check engine light on ALL THE TIME. And the engine WILL run hotter.
