Help choosing intake and carb

Got a 350 short block here with eagle crank cut 10/10 new bearings for main and rods, new rods, forged domed pistons. with 64cc 2.02 1.95 camel heads. compression is at 10:1 but i have a question regarding my current pistons are they still safe to continue using for like another 6 months? I was putting a 150 shot and i took the system out i wont be using nos anymore. so is it safe to use this motor for another 6 months to a year? as a daily driver and maybe it will see the track every other weekend. has a comp cam magnum 280H cam with comp cam lifters and 1.6 roller rockers. double timing chain. its a flat tappet cam.

Re: Help choosing intake and carb

Well I would start with your compression is no where near 10 to 1 with those pistons and 64cc heads. It's somewhere in the 12 - 13 to 1 range. Which is probably what caused all that detonation with the nitrous.
I would pull the pistons and check to see if any of the ringlands are crushed or broken. If I had to bet I would say they are. If they're not I guess you can run it like that, but I wouldn't.

Re: Help choosing intake and carb

Thank but i got some new Keith Black .030 over flat top pistons free of charge from a friend. So i will be having those installed pretty soon. Thanks for the info. What would you recommend for a intake and carb? performer rpm and a 750 holley vacuum secondary?

The holley 750 is a big carb. What is the entire setup you could probably use a 600-650 with great success

Re: Help choosing intake and carb

the 280 is not an overly agressive cam for a street machine.

1.95 exhaust valves?

Still double hump heads?

You can run a 750 but I still think you would be happier with a 650, you may leave 3-5 ponies on the table at high RPM but overall I think you will have a flatter power curve.

If I had to take a guess I would say that if your intakes are 2.02 then your exhaust are 1.6

650 should be good, I see way to many people over carburate and have all sorts of tuning issues.

It can be rejeted but not air restricted. So you can have a carb that does not atomize fuel well. I would still say 650. A 650 carb can support over 400hp no problem.

But get what you want.

This is a decent read. A larger carb will only make more power if the engine needs in and with your build and a max of 6000 RPMs I don't think it does.

But again get what you want.

Take the time and get the one with the timing marks on it. Because you are using a MSD ignition you want to use a static timing light to set your timing and you will want the marks.
