1986 IROC Problem

Bought a IROC that has been sitting a few years before I bought it because of a bad fuel pump. Had someone put new pump, sending unit, tank and purged the lines(My Brother). When I started using it, it had problems starting in the morning or when it sat for more then a day. Crank and crank until I gave it a shot of starting fluid and started right up. I figured ninth injector was bad. Without doing anything and using it more now it starts right up but idles high and the exhaust smells a little rich. When you let go of the brake it kinda wants to take off. Maybe ninth injector stuck open? Anyone have any other ideas I can check or how I can check it? Try to be a little easy on me. I know my way around a tool box and a motor but not too familiar with technical terms.

Re: 1986 IROC Problem

If the fuel was left in the injectors when it was parked that is probable the issue. The injectors are probable sticking from the old fuel, try running a couple of bottles of injector cleaner through a half tank of gas, that should clear it up. The best thing would be to replace all of the injectors with some new ones from southbay fuel injectors.

1st thing to do if you have any engine problems is pull the codes to see if the ECM is showing any problems with the engine sensors.

Report back what you find
