Distributor Swap Help Needed
Hey guys, I just put a Summit HEI Distributor (SUM-850001R) in my 87 Trans Am that originally had a small cap external coil distributor. My problem is a 4 wire plug that was plugged into the distributor. What is it & do I need to do anything with it ?
Any and all help would be appreciated.

First dumb question: Are you using a non-computer carb?
Basically, the large cap (I assume) Summit HEI only needs two connections outside of itself - the "ignition" power wire, which is the pink wire that went to your original coil, and the white "tach" wire that also went to your original coil.
Of course, if you still have EFI, you've got the wrong distributor.

Yes, I,m running a Holley 600 carb.
Yes, I went from a small cap to the big cap distributor. I've got the pink & white wires connected to the new dis. I'm just a little hesitate to try starting it until I know what that 4 wire plug is for or at least what to do with it.

Re: Distributor Swap Help Needed
I also wanted to double check on something else I've done. I also installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge. On the top of the engine block at in the back is a t fitting that has the oil pressure sending unit & an oil pressure switch. I removed the oil presseure switch and connected my new gauge. The pressure swich I removed has 2 wires, so I used a butt connecter & connected these 2 wires, since it is simply a switch. Is this correct ? Does anyone know if doing this will drain my battery when my car sits for a while ?

Re: Distributor Swap Help Needed
if you have a elec pump ,reinstall the OP switch to run the pump ONLY when the engine is running
