Will not restart when hot
I have a 1989 IROC-Z and I just got it back out of the shop and now when I let the car run or drive it and the motor gets hot it will not start back up, have no idea what is wrong.

Do you have headers? How old is the starter? How 'Hot' is it getting? Will it crank at all? How long does it have to cool before it will fire again?

No Header's, and its getting to norm temp, it cranks fine when the motor is cold just if you shut it off after it is warmed up it wont restart until the motor cools back down, it doesn't run hot at all.

Try taking the icm out of your dizzy and testing it at your local parts store, those like to fail when hot, and symptoms are as you describe

Is it turning over? Or is it doing absolutely nothing, maybe clicking? These kinds of details are important.

Re: Will not restart when hot
if it cranks slow it might be your alternator in least that was what mine was.
if it clicks try this fix https://www.thirdgen.org/solenoid might want to upgrade to a mini starter or a high torque one while your at it

Re: Will not restart when hot
I had ZERO luck with a remote solenoid. Made absolutely NO difference. I will sell anyone the one I had for whatever they will offer me for it. I found it pointless. Thats more for heatsoak issues, which, by the way, were completely cured by a ministarter. More than that, he said he doesnt have headers. So it's probably not a heatsoak issue, at least not at the starter solenoid unless it's already going bad.

Re: Will not restart when hot
well my problem was caused by my alternator bearing heating up and being to hard for my starter to move. I suffered with what I thought was the so called heat soak issue but when It finally just siezed while the car was running resulting in a broken belt and one pissed of owner. No problems since and it starts up noticeably faster like the starter doesn't have to fight anymore.

Well that is one for the books. Have to put that on the list of things to check.
