battery dieing in rain
battery dieing in rain
Ok, 82 TA 305 engine. when it rains even slightly the battery will be dead next time it is started or almost the next time.
It has the upper radiator shroud and no lower, could water be getting splashed up on the belts maybe and causing the alternator to not charge, anyone had this problem.
any suggestions?

Have your battery tested and make sure your battery cables are clean and tight. Check the connection on the negative battery cable to the chassis.

You didn’t state if you have to be driving in the rain for the problem to occur the next time you try to start.
If yes, water is causing a path of conduction which is draining the battery.
That path might be: exposed wires down below, might be: getting in the alt so it won’t charge while driving, but then the heat-soak, while parked, dries the alt.
To find out if it happens while driving: monitor your voltmeter if you know it’s accurate.
If you don’t know the accuracy of it, use a test voltmeter with long leads connected to the battery, so you can observe it in the cockpit.
