Buying engine and trans that havent ran in 10 years?

hey guys I found a camaro on Craigslist that's parting out and the person is selling the trans and engine for cheap $300!!! The engine I dont have a problem with I can rebuild that its the transmission that I'm worried about. Will it still work good even after not running after 10 years or its a big risk? Please help.

Big risk? Sounds like about a $250 risk on the trans. Since you are talking about an engine rebuild anyway, that makes the engine a $50 core.

There is a great posibility that the trans is crapped out. First of all, why was it parked for 10 years in the first place? Secondly, there are lots of soft parts in a transmission that can dry out from sitting that long.

There's a reason why it's all cheap... because it's all going to need to be redone. 10 years is a LONG time to be sitting. That transmission will definitely need to be gone through at this point regardless of the operating condition when it was initially pulled.

x2on the trans. Found that out the hard way with my trans and rearend.
Brand new in 00...garagedfor 10 yrs within 200 mi had to have them rebuilt, bearing races that didnt have fluid covering them were getting pitted and caused problems. Pay a cheap core price for those parts thats it.
