CAM QUESTION
I BOUGHT AN ENGINE, 5.7L TO PUT IN MY 92 RS. BLOCK NUMBER 14093638.
IT HAS A ROLLER CAM IN IT. CAN I PUT A FLAT TAPPET CAM IN FOR THE REBUILD. THE BLOCK NUMBER SAID IT WAS A 1987-1995 ROLLER CAM OR FLAT TAPPET. I WANT TO GO WITH FLAT TAPPET TO SAVE MONEY.

You can but is false economy
Better Hp potential with a roller cam , easier to run new engine in (no risk of wiping out the new cam which gets rid of any " savings" you might make )
no need to buy new lifters if changing the cam in future

Unless the cam is just wild, rolling back to a flat tappet isn't doing you any huge favors. Every cam has its purpose, but you shouldn't be messing with a cam swap if you're trying to save money. You are playing with fire if you use an old worn set of hydraulic roller lifters with a new cam; particularly if it has aggressive lobe patterns.
