sending unit wire

I have my sending unit cleaned up , bad pump removed and ready to mod for carb pick up.
I took apart the mechanism for float arm cleaned and it now reads from 1.87 - 89 ohms. While not perfect should give me a good idea how much gas I have left.
The wire from that mechanism to the connector on top of unit is frayed and the coating is coming off. Is there a certain type of wire I need to replace it with?
