1987 2.8 Camaro NO CRANK NO START
1987 2.8 Camaro NO CRANK NO START
So i have done some searching here and there but I'm not really seeing an answer to my problem. I bought a 1987 camaro recently and it took turning the key 2-4 times to start it ..it wouldn't crank until that 3rd or 4th but when it cranked it turned over first time every time. I drove it probably 60-70 miles the first night and it kept doing it but it would eventually start.
Well this morning or last night, I forget exactly when, it stopped doing that too. I turn the key lights go on theres a hum and click but no cranking or starting. I took the starter out and ran down to autozone. They said both the starter and solenoid are good, so I tackled the next culprit, a deteriorating negative cable. It still won't give me what I need.
I don't know if it matters but it WILL start if I pop the clutch and run great, but I REALLY don't wanna keep doing that. UH to cover most of what I can think of the alternator is newish, as are the plugs and wires. The battery is of questionable age and quality but will probably get tested next. I would ask if it could be like a starter relay or something but...anyways if someone has any idea what's going on with this I'd appreciate the help

Re: 1987 2.8 Camaro NO CRANK NO START
Get a test light & someone the crank the ignition switch, you should have 12 volts at the big starter wire all the time, 12 volts at the small wire only when cranking, & the starter mounting area should be clean & rust free (a good ground).

Ok so got to testing the connection, the large bolt is constantly receiving, however the small is not lighting when the key is turned, assuming of course that the light was in fact on the small, for what it's worth the battery is definitely good
SOLVED!!! 1987 2.8 Camaro NO CRANK NO START
Long story short a PO had installed Avery cheap aftermarket remote start. The hacked and chopped the hell out of the hot and switch wires. Removed the remote system reconnected the wiresame properly and now we're up and running again.
