I am new here so I hope this is in the right place. I have a 92 rs that has been swapped to a 5.7 and also has a 700r4 as well as a ostrich emulator for the ecm. I am new to these cars and mine is having issues. Everything was fine until one day when I left work the car fired up but was idling at 2k. I tried to somewhat troubleshoot it then but no luck. After I pulled off in it I noticed the speedometer wasn't moving. The car has been down for a month and I'm going crazy not having it. I've tried to pull codes using the paperclip method but did no good. I know nothing about working the emulator so its not helping me. I immediately assumed vss so I ordered the one that was supposed to come on my car but it wasn't the same as the one that was on the car to begin with. I've found one like the one that was in my car but it is $150 and now I'm getting concerned that its not the vss. Can anyone help or has anyone had similar issues that came from a bad vss? Thanks.

 

Was this a tbi 305 car or a 3.1L ?
If it was a tbi car the vss sends a 2k ppm to the vss buffer (a yellow box in the car).
From the vss a 2k optical signal (brown wire needs to go to the ECM pin c6. Your programming will need to reflect this magnetic pulse to optical. The 4k pm can come from the ECM or the buffer to the ip. A 3.1 would goto the 730 directly. Are you getting tcc lockup ? If not you need to check the wiring vss connecter and vss output voltage. If you have tcc lockup chances are the speedometer needs repaired. Iirc in lhm per your other thread the vss is still passive on the 730 ECM.
