Re: car wont start when hot
my guess it 's vapor locking.
Vapor lock is a problem that mostly affects gasoline-fueled internal combustion engines. It occurs when the liquid fuel changes state from liquid to gas while still in the fuel delivery system. After time to cool off, all is normal.

Is your in-tank pusher pump working? does yours even have one? It was a dealer mod they did to help prevent vapor lock.

The fuel gets hot in the intake and carb and bubbles off. It's part of the whole vapor lock. My granddads old Lincoln does it.
If you have true vapor lock, you won't be able to push through it because of the air in the lines.
But, it does try and crank over when won't start right?

2 ways to combat vapor lock shown on an a fancy engine from the C2 site. First is a heat plate under the carb. And second is the metal return fuel line with a dribble hole at its connection to the fuel supply. That small hard line is connected to the existing return line down on the frame. If the mechanical pump has a return....it should be capped off.

What size should the dribble hole be?(assuming approx 6 lbs pressure)
The blue tee with a small hole acts as a kind of regulator/vent back to the tank then?
Heat soak and fuel percolation seems to be a chronic problem with these carb'd 3rd gens, Thanks.

Could be your carb has a internal leak and is flooding out the engine
when shut off hot. When it sits/cools for a bit the gas evaporates
and it starts right up.
Possibly a float issue?
I thought only the HO motors has both a in tank and block fuel pump?

Had a boat with a Chevy motor. Had the same problem. Turned out to be the coil. Not familiar with your engine, but if you have a single coil that leads to the distributor, that could be the problem. When they go bad, they will swell (internally) and short out when they're hot. After they cool down, you can start it again. They will manage to keep enough juice flowing one the engine's hot and running, but not enough to start it.

1/2 inch plastic carb spacer will probably cure your problem......look on ebay under $25.....it fixed mine.....
