Sea Foam

My 87 L98 has been sitting for a number of years in a body shop prior to my buying it & had a really rough idle. Worse than that you could smell raw gas in the exhaust to the point it would make your eyes water. I had picked up plugs expecting to change them but decided to try something else first.

Yesterday I picked up both cans of the Sea Foam - the pour in gas treatment & the spray can style. The tank on the car was reading half full so I poured in a half pint and following the directions I inserted the straw in the intake stream between the air flow sensor & the throttle body. I started the car, brought the idle up & fogged the engine as directed, then shut it off to sit. When I started it back up it ran GREAT & had no missed or rough idle. The exhaust smell is back to normal as well.

I'll need to try this on some of my older cars now too!

Re: Sea Foam

I've heard of people using these and I'm sire they're wonderful. But I don't personally use it anymore. It gave my previous car a lot of problems, and I'd rather clean things by taking them apart or replacing them, rather than running some fluid in my system.
However if it worked for you, I'm glad! I'm sure it saved a lot of time

Re: Sea Foam

I got a "field find" running with the help of Seafoam last year. I probably should have dropped and cleaned the tank and rebuilt the carb, but being the lazy man, I used a couple of cans of Seafoam on the carb and in the tank got it running, at least temporarily with it's varnished gas.

Re: Sea Foam

BTW, avoid products like Seafoam if you still have your Multec injectors.

I'm adding some to my 2 stroke gas can - hopefully it will clear out my weed whacker & leaf blower!

Re: Sea Foam

I dumped a can of Seafoam in the fueltank of my 89 IROC, It is idling smoother and generally running better.

Watcha mean "avoid products like Seafoam if you still have your Multec injectors?"

Overuse of products like Seafoam will wear the coating on the Multec's wiring, causing them to short circuit.

Re: Sea Foam

Sorry guys, just trying to help - I was pretty impressed.

Chaz - if it's just delivered through the air/fuel system, how can you short circuit the wiring?

As opposed to the superior Bosch injectors the Multecs replaced, the Multec's design has the wiring exposed to fuel as a way to cool them. Frequent use of cleaners, fuel stabilizers, etc., will eventually wear the plastic coating exposing the wire.

I WAS JOKING! I used the stuff too.

I used it in an old POS Chevy Truck 350 while the neighbors were having a 4th of July Party! LMFAO!!!
Had not spoke to them in years, but the truck is still running for the guy!

Re: Sea Foam

I know you were Bob - I'm fine. Upon re-reading I do see how it has a certain "voice over" quality to it.

Good tip Chaz, note to self!

Thank You for that explanation. I am going to keep refilling my fuel tank to dilute the can I put into the cars gas tank. adding a few gallons of premium gas a day should dilute the Seafoam to nothing in only a few days.

Thanks Again, appreciate it.

I'd doubt a one time use would be an issue.
