I've got a 350 with edelbrock vortec performer and quadrajet. I picked up an air cleaner at the junkyard from an 85 Olds brougham(single snorkel) and it's not clearing my 89 firebirds flat hood, this is with the hood insulation removed. Are the air cleaners from a camaro/firebird any lower?

 

Can you post a pic of the air cleaner your trying to use? If it looks like a truck air cleaner or any other intake from a 70s/80s sedan than the lid is your problem. Those intakes have a raised lid while on an f body the lid sits relatively flat. The stock f body lid sits pretty close to the hood as it is so a lid from another car that is taller definitely will not work.

 

i have a modofied (single snorkel pointing forward to hook up to the stock V6 air intake setup) 70's or 80's Chevy something or other air cleaner housing in my Camaro... i had to cut out the hood bracing to clear it, but it's in there under a stock flat hood.. i was running the Camaro V8 lid and element on it, but decided that i wanted to add a ton of airflow and power so i put the taller lid and element in it.. pretty sure i probably dropped at least .001 second off my 1/4 mile et by doing it..

 

I tried closing the hood with the lid and filter off and it still hit. But it's definitely not one of the huge truck intakes. Does anyone have the measurement for how tall the f-stop air cleaners are so I can compare?

Just messed with it and it's the lid and stud that would clear. I've posted an ad in the wanted section. Thanks
