Where to look next?
So my car has been dying for a while now, and i thought it wasn't getting the proper amount of fuel to the engine because the fuel gage doesn't work either. So over the week i dropped my axle and got my fuel tank out and replaced the sending unit and the fuel pump. Thing is the car is still dying, not as frequently i'll give it that but it's still annoying. It is only doing it now when i slow down fast though, almost if it's stalling out. The transmission that is in was put in by the previous owner, it's suppose to be able to handle like 700 hp. I don't really now if i should keep looking into more fuel concerns or get the tranny checked out. Also my fuel gage still doesn't work which i was kinda pissed to see because i just spent 250 trying to fix it. Just looking for opinions on where to look next. If the tranny is indeed a high power transmission, could i have a under powered engine for it? It's a stock 5.0 tpi. Thanks for looking.

I was looking around and saw that a bad torque converter could cause this sort of problem, it also shifts really hard from park to drive. Anyone care to confirm or deny this possibility?

Did you check the fuel pressure in the line? Would be like 41-44 psi from the nipple. Use a fuel gauge from autozone. If you don't have enough fuel pressure, the fuel pressure regulator could be a proble. Also, injectors are a common problem on our tpi cars. They gum up really bad or just malfunction in general. Check their ohms. Should be like 14-16 cold. Check when hot too.

Re: Where to look next?
Just got done checking those today. The fuel pressure was steady at 42-44, the injectors where running between 15.8-16.2. I got a hold of the guy that put the transmission in it, he said the transmission was meant for a 383, it has a 2500 stall converter and a shift kit. So i'm taking it to the tranny shop with week sometime to get it inspected.

It's not the transmission.. You can't really have a trans that's "too strong" for the engine . Non of the common GM transmissions even built to the max will draw/take anymore than 20-30 HP to turn/run if that.
Common driveline loss is 15-18%. That counts torque converter, transmission, front U joint, driveshaft, rear U joint, rear axle..
So if engine makes 230 HP at crank, it will make 188 to 195 HP at the wheels.. So 35 to 42 HP used to turn all of the driveline
