Blew my 305

Hey guys,

Well I bent a rod in my 305, this was my daily driver so this put me in a pretty tough position. Anyways I spent my entire lunch break at the machine shop yesterday getting things planned out and I'd like to know what you guys think, so far here's what im going with.

.040 quench
9.7:1 compression
.030 bore
TRW powerforged flat top pistons
Eagle I-Beam rods
Federalmogul bearings?
total seal rings?

And I need to figure out QUICK what to do for heads, I've read all the recent threads on them and I'd like to get some info HERE without all the ego that ruined the other ones

I dont think i want to go with a vortec manifold so no Vortecs or Fastburns, but other than that whats a good choice?

Dart
Trick flow
Canfield
etc ??
Thanks!

Good call

Well the 305 was in the 14's (I'll leave it general )

The 350 had been a long term goal, I planned on dropping it in around march, well this is a not only daily, but hourly driver. The city's small so driveability can be a little rough, heck its almost invited

I'd like to hit LOW 12's maybe even 11's with the short block, but dont expect to right away since this is an emergency build. I plan on keeping it N/A, Im going with a comp cam grind around 212/218 520 lift 112 LSA, TPI with SLP LTR's Siamesed, and some day an edelbrock highly ported and semi-siamesed base. As for now just a stock ported base with the siamesed runners.

I'd like to be deep in the 13's when I fire it off

Thanks!

We are talking 355, right?

AFRs seem to be the consensis for best performance. You also didn't mention Sportsman IIs, available in either iron or aluminum; a lower cost but very definate upgrade choice over factory heads.

Considering this is an "emergency" build I dont have the luxury of saving for AFR's

I need something in the $800-$1000 range

in that price range the s/r torqers or sportsman II's would be a excellent choice.

i'd probley say sence this is going to be a daily driver the s/r torqers would be a better choice, the sportman II's are a little more for a race only head.

I just noticed the 200cc intake runner

Yes its a daily driver but Its going to be a far from mild one

I plan on seeing 12's in a few months, and i HOPE for 11's some day on the same short block

http://www.worldcastings.com/tech/wp...lock_chevy.pdf theres the link for info on the heads, it does say they ARE compatible with 87 and up design and i dont see why they wouldnt work with TPI. so the s/r torqers look like there right up your ally.
