Which mark on the crank gear for cam installation?
I put a new cam in, and I am putting the crank gear on. The gear is a Summit Timing set and has a few marks First off the key marks are O A R and I know I want the O mark if I am putting it straight up, but now there are other marks on the gear that Say O , A , and R Between the key marks O and A there is a nother O like in the middle. Between the key marks O and R there is another R and the same goes for the R and A one. Do I want the O on the keymark to be straight up or the O on the gear?
Since you are installing it "STRAIGHT UP", you want to line up the "O" above the keyway (slot) with the key on the crank when you install the gear.
You then line up the other "O" (which is not near any keyway, but is about 30 degrees to the left of the "O" above the keyway) with the dot on the cam gear.

You want to install the gear with the 0 directly above the key. The key lines up exactly with the #1 journal, so when the motor is turned to #1 TDC, the keyway points to 1:30 (45° to the driver's side of straight up) viewed from the front. At that point, the timing mark you want will be straight up. So, exactly 45° to the left of the keyway, should be the timing mark that goes with the "0" install point. It may be the one marked with the little "o".
