dumping fuel 327 with 750

dumping fuel 327 with 750
Just picked up an 87 formula with a built 327, ford 9 inch and a bunch of other goodies. The cam has 110 degrees of lobe separation. It's just running extremely rich. I'm afraid it's washing down the walls and diluting the oil. Is the 750 quickfuel too much carb for a 327? Also the previous owner removed the sway bar for track use. I noticed one of the front strut tower plates was shifted all the way in towards the center of the car and the other one is about halfway to the end of its travel. Any connection here?

I would say that's indeed too much carb for a 327. Unless it's a vacuum secondary, though either way, sounds like its jetted way high or has a blown power valve. What's it idle at?

I've got a .040 over aluminum head 327 in my trans am. It's pretty healthy and I am running am 670 holley with vacuum secondaries. It's still decently rich at idle. I'd say a 750 would be too much.

Yeah, as long as its steady. I'd still recommend a 650, might have to search to find a 650 VS, but a 650 mech secondaries should be plenty for a 327.

Re: dumping fuel 327 with 750
A 750 can work fine on a 327. The rich idle can be corrected by adjusting the carb idle circuit. Make sure the floats are at the correct height, set the idle screws for what the engine wants. A good starting point is 1-1/2 turns from bottomed and then adjust as necessary.
Check your power valve to make sure it is not blown also check to make sure you have enough idle timing. You should shoot for 20-25 degrees of idle timing to help smooth out the idle. This will also allow you to close your throttle some to use less fuel. If you have a vacuum advance distributor this will allow you to run even more idle timing.

Think I have it pretty much figured out. The primary bowl was adjusted way to high. Also After getting the idle mixture set I shut the car off at about 200 degrees. Came out about an hour later to leave for work and could actually here the fuel boiling in the carb. Pulled the filter off and fuel was hissing and popping out and dropping down the carb. The previous owner ran one of the fuel lines against the upper radiator hose...
