cleaned, reworked original crank, mag'd in perfect shape
eagle 5.7 I rods
speed pro pistons (bore 103.124, compress dis 1.425", Pist Head Vol +5.00cc)
Comp Cam Hydraulic Flat Tappet Duration 270/270, Lift .470/.470
Edelbrock highrise intake manafold
edelbrock performer series carb 600cfm

its pushing a 87 firebird with an auto tranny in it. may never see the strip but that doesnt mean I dont want as much HP as possible.

I need to match the heads now to get as much hp as I can and this is where I get lost per say. can anybody help me out here?

Re: help with head information

With that low duration and life I would go for something like a 170CC vortec head or something similar. If you can handle a 64ish cc chamber. I probably would not go over 180CC on the intake runner.

Re: help with head information

hmm something like a AFR-0918,, or the edelbrock performer edl-60995 than should work. although Im not opposed to changing out the cam and dropping in a different comp cam, say the cca-12-564-4... thoughts?

Re: help with head information

What is your block deck height?
Stock is 9.025" Even if you decked it by .025", which is typically referred to as "zero-decked" with stock pistons, you'd still have a horrible 0.135" deck clearance with those pistons. You need something closer to a stock compression height piston (1.56")
I would stop right where you are and reconsider.

Re: help with head information

so Im unable to measure the deck height properly as I dont have the proper tool. But I did put the piston in, bolt it down and measured the piston height gap with it at TDC, 0.146 best I could with some feeler gauges and digital caliper. with that said,, it looks like a deck height of 9.011. So it looks like ill be ordering new pistons, speed-pro with a 1.565 compression dist, with a piston head volume of 3.40cc. 3.48/2=1.74+5.7+1.565=9.005. uuuhhhggggggggggg...
