Question about setting timing

Car: 1988 GTA Trans am 1 owner since new
Engine: 383 built
Transmission: 1995 camaro t56 6 speed
Axle/Gears: 3.24 posi 9 bolt
Question about setting timing
1988 gta 305 tpi.... 5 speed.
I set my timing last night with my timing gun
The tabs showing the marks was rusty and I could see slashes but couldn't see the actual timing marks....
Is each tab 2 degrees if its 6 deg then is it 2 or 3

6 degrees BTDC is the first notch CCW from the large notch.

I think my last two TPI engines ran best around 8 degrees advanced.
