Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Looks like I'm dealing with morons at a supplier where I bought a grille from. Here is an excerpt from their latest email regarding the grill they shipped. "The replacement Grille that we sent you was inspected prior to shipping and had no defects." Here are pics of their defect free grill that I returned. https://imgur.com/7ZVsaoP Pass side bottom https://imgur.com/W2NN4hU Pass side vertical & https://imgur.com/DoRuqUv driver's side machine marks. Defect free, huh? I bought one from another source. Hopefully they got their sh*t together.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Started round 2 with the DMV to get my '89 registered. Had to drive my truck over there this morning to get another 10 day temporary tag. Happy to report the car ran strong. Have to take it over there tomorrow, so they can 'see' the VIN. $1500 later, I'll have a registration. Got an appointment Wednesday morning to get the headliner & visor covers replaced. Got it home & gave it it's 1st bath here. Quite dusty from the transporter ride, (enclosed), & 6 weeks sitting uncovered in storage. Washing it uncovered all of it's hidden warts. It may very well get a full repaint.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Machine polished the haze off the rear bumper, then took out the swirls from the tail lights. Need to get the film from inside the lenses off & they will look brand new. Got rid of a few light scratches on the roof. Taking it to get a new headliner in the morning.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Well, I FINALLY got it registered & now got some bullsh*t tag on it.Got a personalized plate ordered. It's vehicle specific, you can figure it out. Got the original, sagging headliner replaced with a suade one. Subtle custom look. Having the car finally out of storage & in the sun, I talked to a custom painter about doing a show car paint job on the car. He spent about an hour going over it with a fine tooth comb. He will get back to me with an estimate. The factory paint has issues, too many to warrant a full body repaint.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Not today, but over the last 3 days, I removed & reclamped the armrests, which were bowed. Before pics.

Yuck, gotta go. Here are a few clamping pics.

Driver's side. Did this 1st. Scrap piece of particle board with a towel to prevent marring of the rubber.Plastic was scuffed up with 600 grit sandpaper. I put a death clamp on here.

The rest of the dr. side. Again with the death clamp.

Dr. side installed. As you can see, the death clamp was over kill. It made the top surface wavy. I'm not to concerned about it, as it looks tons better than before. I'm not gonna show the car with the doors open anyway.

Death clamp close up.

Pass. side had a small area underneath that I addressed & the top was one, long bow.

Here it is, all clamped, lightly this time

Pass. side installed. Again, much better. Lighter clamp pressure resulted in a smooth surface. Overall, an easy job to do. I used Shoe Goo for the adhesive with a minimum 6 hours clamped. Both tops were left overnight. The hardest thing was trying to remove the caps at the top, leading edge, to get to the bolt underneath. Got the headliner done Wednesday & the upholstery shop didn't have enough suade to do the visors & sail panels. I went back today to get those finished pieces installed. Will post pics in the morning.

Anybody ever remove the side molding from their Camaro? When I get mine repainted, I'm thinking about leaving it off. Would like to see how it looks without it.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Got to looking at the pass side visor that was sloppy loose since the upholstery shop recovered them. Turns out, they mounted it wrong. Had it not so tightly held up by the suede only. Removed the visor from the support rod & reattached it correctly. Tighter than a virg*** p**** now. Stays up like new.

I opened my door this morning and it squeaked so loud. I realized the car I 25 years old and probably in desperate need of some lubrication. I lubed u the door hinges. what a difference few drops of lube can make.

Everyone whose cars are outside for the winter.............
Check the drain holes at the bottom of your doors!
A few years ago, after heavy rain, when I closed the driver's door I heard
a "whoosh, whoosh" sound. The door had about 6" of water in it because the drains were blocked.

That's why all my f bodies are garaged. My 2 Trans Ams have never been in rain. I showed it to them when I opened the garage door. Neither one moved, so that told me to never let them outside when it rains.

haha. I don't have the garage space to shelter everything. I have a 53 chevy truck that gets a space in the garage along with my motorcycle. my birds gotta get wet and cold. I'm hoping to get a nice car port one day but that's in the future. I don't think its gonna hurt it too much since its driven daily. if it sat a lot might not be great for it. I will worry more once I paint it but that to will be a year or two out. ive still got to get a few minor bugs work out.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

I was driving home from work and had a conversation with myself about how much the stock headlights suck. I was having a real hard time seeing. I looked into replacing the bulbs with Sylvania a while back but never did it. about the time I got home I realized I had the dash lights on but not the headlights. the stock yellow headlights do suck but having an idiot at the switch cant be helping either.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Dreaded engine light came on last night, code 36, MAF burnoff. Pulled both relays, took apart, coil checks good, pulls in good, cleaned contacts, cleared code. We'll see in the next day or so, fingers crossed. MAF wire looks good, wiring looks good. Gave car a good wash job, sometimes fixes a lot of problems right there. Ordered new AC/Delco relays from Rock Auto anyway since mine are originals.

Are your lights sealed beams? If not, go to your local parts store & look at Sylvania's brightest bulbs, aka most expensive ones. I put those in my 2002 s 10 & they throw out a nice bright white beam. Brighter & cleaner white than stock.

I run Sylvania XtraVision sealed beams, they're nice As for my car I've just been driving and enjoying her, recently fought some dead fuel injectors I wasted a rebuild kit on tho :P cleaned her all up the other night so she's looking her best!!

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

pulled the bird into the garage. I'm starting the heater and in about 20 minutes I will be out trying to find the leak. I'm crossing my fingers for a loose hose clamp but would also accept a torn hose. EDIT- got it up on ramps. I pulled the rad cap and it was empty. I tightened all the hose clamps before I added fluid. nothing came out. I started and ran the car until the heat was blowing warm and still no leak. its leaking oil from TWO spots! its leaking power steering bad. I only noticed it howling 2 days ago but though it was because it was2 degrees. however half the freaking car is covered in power steering fluid now. I have a catch pan under the car now waiting to see if its going to leak. if it doesn't I'm going to drive it to get the power steering fluid to see if I can get it to leak or if I have already corrected the issue with the hose clamps. I'm going to clean off the power steering pump and see if I can locate the issue. I will probably have to replace the pump...lame. I'm no closer on the stupid coolant leak though. I need heat!! its 7 degrees right now. EDIT- I'm done for the night. I couldn't get it to leak coolant. I guess it was a hose clamp? I cleaned off the power steering pump and found a hose that seemed to be dirtier than all the other areas. I tightened the hose clamp on it and filled up the pump. I ran the car for about 15 minutes and I didn't see any ps fluid leaking. the oil leak looks like it might be coming from the oil filter. put wrench on it and it was pretty loose. I tightened it and cleaned it up. I will watch it to see if it tries to leak again. I guess it just boils down to a 28 year old car that needs some attention. i hope that this is fixed. we shall see.

I would try and post that in the general engine question forum. that forum is a technical section and you will have more luck getting a reply. have you checked the trans mounts?

Replaced all 8 injectors in my 91 Z28 weekend before last. That's a pretty good job. Changed the oil and oil pressure sender today. Also finally got the fog lights off the front valence and determined the metal frames around the lights are basically rotten.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

I got oem reproduction fogs for my '89, as the originals were pitted & rusty. Supplier is a listed sponsor, Hawks Third Gen. Mine came with new brackets. Do a search.

Congrats on the purchase. It hurts to see these cars neglected so. Best wishes for bringing beauty back to the old ride. Keep us posted as you get things done.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

went to oriellys to get Sylvania extreme lights for the 91 but they only had the regular Sylvania. I'm sure the regular lights would have been fine but I went in for the extreme so I didn't want the regular. I'm also online looking for a flowmaster. my 91 just has a single muffler. I'm thinking the supper 44 will add a little rumble. if it has a cat I will probably remove that as well.

I totally agree. I love 70-73 but the Third Gen is king in my book. Especially 82-90. I never was fond of the rear wing on the 91-92 Z28s. After 92 I never have really liked the looks of the Camaro at all to be honest even though they got much more powerful.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?

I totally agree on the '91-'92 high wings. My favs are what I got, an '89 or an '88. Solely due to the wheels revamped in '88 & the move to the rear of door decals. More so now, as the '85-'87s don't look right to me anymore. Nothing against any year Iroc, but I knew what I HAD to get.
