Need help on 305 carb engine fuel pump relay.
Hi, I am the former siuol. For some reason I could never get a new password so I had to re-register.
I have the 305 carb engine and my problems started when I got a choke light. Doing my dd, i find that the choke relay does not have power on the tan/white wire. Looking at the factory manual, the tan/white wire along with the ground will activate the relay and send power to the choke heater.
My fuel pump relay has only 4 wires, orange - hot, tan to the pump and tan/ white and black that supposedly activates the relay. According to the manual the choke relay gets power from the fuel pump relay. Car runs great on the manual pump alone but I want to get the electric one working and consequently the choke. I just cannot see how the choke relay will get power from the fuel pump relay since it only has 4 wires, two to activate and other two for power to the pump.
Also, can jump the orange (hot) and tan (pump) wires together to check to see if the pump works?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Louis

You should be able to supply power to the pump on the tan/white to test its operation.
What year? Depending on the model year, the choke heater relay could receive power from the C/H fuse directly from the fuse panel via a tan wire, and not from the FP/INJ fuse.
