Tune up time

Okay so the story goes my car doesn't run that smooth when i first start it up in the morning expl: i go to crank the motor sometimes i cranks up the first time but its mainly the second time when its running i go to leave i give it some gas it jerks forward until it warms up a bit then after work im driving home i try to do a little pull i hit the gas and it jerks fighting me along the way then i will finely start accelerating smoothly what could it be im thinking air, ignition or fuel.

What do you think?

Re: Tune up time

air
Not likely... that's usually available in more or less the same quantity and quality all the time.

ignition
Also not likely... doesn't work poorly when cold, then straighten out when hot.

fuel
I guess that's all that's left. Might wanna pop your injectors out and soak em in lacquer thinner overnight, and put em back with new O-rings. See if that helps any.

Maybe change out yer fuel filter while you're in the mood.

Re: Tune up time

I think something could be stuck in my lines filter or pump, could a clogged fuel system cause these kinds of problems?

Re: Tune up time

One of the first things I did with my car was change the fuel filter then use a fuel injector cleaner in the fuel.

Never hurts to do a tune up. Take off the Distributor Cap and look at the contacts and rotor. Pull a plug and look at it.

Re: Tune up time

It was happing again I was driving to Wal-Mart took 3 times to start it i started it up ran good in the neighbor hood but after I get out start driving and it was hesitant about accelerating I'm half way on the gas pedal around 1k to 2k RPM it's just so annoying driving normal oh I have to pass someone ( tries to pass other car ) it starts hesitating jerking forward can't pass that guy so I'm just sitting there the guy things I'm trying to race him and he speeds up...

This is just getting old been like this for months

Re: Tune up time

id start at the rotor in the Distributor then follow to the cylinders. I think replacing a rotor was about $5-10

1 - Rotor
2 - Dist Cap (& button)
3 - Spark Leads
4 - Plugs

Sorry for the late question but what are the symptoms of water in gasoline?

Re: Tune up time

waterbeing more dense will sit at the bottom. if theres enough of a concentration the car probably wont start as it cant run on water.

the fuel tank assembly sock thing doesnt touch the bottom of the tank so youd have to have a shittonne of water in there to have that sort of problem at startup after settling.

Fuel filter is a distinct possibility.

Re: Tune up time

Not to be a twit too much, but...

How's that fuel injector cleaning and fuel filter working out for you? Or are you still yakking on the Internet about it a lot instead of actually DOING STUFF?

Your car couldn't care less how much you post. All it cares is, DOES IT WORK. Which in this case is, IS THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF FUEL MAKING IT TO THE CYLINDERS AT ALL TIMES.

You can post 100 times a day and get 5000 answers, but your car won't run ONE IOTA better until such time as you DO what needs to be DONE.

Follow the Nike slogan. "Just do it".

Re: Tune up time

Im getting to it this weekend i just needed time off from work to do this.

I know what has to be done i've just been waiting on a good time to do this when the weather is nice so i wont freeze and to have time off work Friday plus my work is right next to part store

The only reason why i kept posting was new stuff was happening to the car like it stalling i know that was fuel problem but trouble with starting that could have been fuel spark or the starter i just wanted to make sure and not fix something that wasn't broken to begin with.

Re: Tune up time

Try the injector soak in lacquer thinner trick. If you think a fuel filter made it run better... prepare to be amazed.
