Good time to replace the motor mounts?

All;

I'll shortly be putting a T56 in my '88 IROC...

I was looking at the motor mounts, and wasn't too pleased at what I saw.

Would it be a good time to replace them while the transmission is out of the car, or will that really make much of a difference?

I was thinking since there would be less weight to deal with, it might be a good idea to tackle them while the car is in the air, and the drivetrain is lighter.

Thoughts?

Re: Good time to replace the motor mounts?

While the transmission is out, you can hoist the motor a little bit easier.
Obviously, you need to lift the motor about an inch to slide the old mounts out, and slide the new mounts in.

You are STILL going to have to figure out how you are going to work around the CONTROL ARMS to reach the bolts that go from the motor mounts into the K-member. Unbolting the motor from the motor mounts is the easy part. Removing the old motor mounts from the K-member is the hard part.

Getting around the control arms is really the biggest challenge of replacing motor mounts on a third-gen. Whether the motor is still connected to the transmission is a far less-significant factor.
