Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
So I recently upgraded the 305 engine on my 86 IROC with Dyno Don's headers, CompCam #12-388-4 and this intake setup https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...-polished.html. Also deleted all the air injection stuff and the Cat. Very happy with the result, the engine's got a nice growl and power's now sufficient for my street cruising needs. Nothing like putting the "muscle" back in a Muscle Car, yeah? Ported & Polished SLP runners and intake system, Dyno Don Headers and air pump delete.
I've learned a TON about my car from browsing this forum, so wanted to give back to the members by offering the old intake system (plenum, runners, base, fuel rail) for FREE.
The car has only 11,000 documented miles on it, so this stuff id in good condition.
There are only three conditions:
One: HAS TO BE PICKED-UP LOCALLY in Miami Beach. No, I won't ship, so please don't ask or offer $$$ as inducement. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. So..... if you're interested, drop a PM, the first to hit my inbox gets it.
TWO: If you don't pickup inside of a week, it goes to the next in line.
THREE: you have to actually need this for your project. Resellers, will be tracked down and hunted!
Sound fair??
Free intake stuff! The fuel rail is there, but we had to re-use the injectors in the new setup.
Cheers,
Jim

Thanks guys, I’ve had the car for a year and a half and I have restored the outside with a professionally done paint job in the original color, all new badges and stickers. The interior was mint when I got it, I only replaced the original steering wheel which didn’t feel right and stereo with a Retro Sound unit to be able to link my phone.
Budget permitting, the plan for later in the year is to upgrade the suspension, install sub frame connectors and bigger brakes.
Honestly without the wealth of information available on this forum I would not have had any idea in which direction to take this project.

Weird, no takers... Maybe I should relist in the Classifieds section, huh??
Your local pick-up stipulation might be an issue as well. How many thirdgen owners in the miami beach area ? How many of those NEED these parts for a project ? Now how many of those are members of this site ? Probably a pretty small to non-existent pool of potential takers.

Yeah, could be, but there ARE about 5 million people in South Florida within an hour's drive.....
Can you tell me about that AM/FM/HDMI Whatever radio of yours? I was looking at it, online and would like a first-hand review, please. Retro Sound, is it?

Yeah, it's a Retro Sound 1.5 DIN head unit. Had it for a year and it works as advertised. It has a "period correct" look and syncs well with my iPhone for tunes and phone calls which is why I got it. Only complaint is that the controls aren't very intuitive, but once you learn them, it's no longer an issue. For example, to answer an incoming phone call you have to rotate the outer ring of the top dial counter-clockwise, not exactly how I'd have set it up......

Thanks Jim! How does it sound? A lot better than the factory Delco? IE Elvis's "My Way" or "How Great Thou Art" or Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher"? MC
Mike, can't say for sure, cause when I pulled the old factory unit, I also replaced the 4 old speakers which were shot. I'd have to reinstall the old unit for a head-to-head comparison and that ain't happening For classic 70's and 80's rock the sound is good for my ears, but then I'm no audiophile and the car still has a few rattles that I haven't fixed, so between that and the ever present road noise, the audio environment in the car is far from ideal. I might one day install some sound deadening material beneath the carpet and add an amp and subwoofer combo to improve the overall sound quality.

Thanks Jim, I certainly wouldn't want you to R&R and test the old head unit, on my account!
FWIW, my 1988 Lincoln Mark VII LSC ( a completely different beast, than an F Body), has it's OE JBL Premium sound, in place. I had a universal input added, to the OE head. It sounds fantastic! Almost as good as the OE Bose in my 2001 Corvette.
Sounds like a nice build! Any before/after dyno? I have the 230hp/300tq LB9 with N10, but would love about 20hp more out of it.
Thanks, I'm enjoying the car. It's taken me a while to find a chassis dyno near me, but it seems I finally have and will take the car next week. It won't be a true before-and-after, but the car was bone stock "before" except for the Flowmaster exhaust, so we know what its output had to be. I'll report back when I have the data.
Seat of the pants, the difference in performance is VERY noticeable. Whereas before the car felt sluggish, it nows jumps when you floor it. It accelerates hard to 4500 rpm (auto box) and is generally much more responsive to throttle application. So much so, that I now want to upgrade the stock brakes which don't inspire much confidence.
