frankin engine heads!

lets just jump into this problem ive put my self into... 89 GTA 350. original engine trashed and I put in an 89 vette block(different pistons?). reused old heads/intake from the original block and got everything working (was rushing)…..heads and intake are warped from old block overheating and bending a rod. time to complicate things. I happen to have a intake 14081005 from my understanding is an 85 intake. what if any heads can I use with this intake that will keep it CA legal and im trying to stay away from AFRs price tag. is my best option just stay stock with a reman set of 083s and just hog out the center holes to fit this intake or do I have better options I cant find?....im not looking for huge power or wanting to bother with cams or reprograming..im used to stock rebuilding and know very little in the way of performance....just looking for advice lol.

Re: frankin engine heads!

That's an 85/86 intake. I'm confused - where is your 89 GTA intake? Why wouldn't you use that? Other than the intake bolt angles it's the same. And if you are using the 89 heads then use the 89 manifold.

Re: frankin engine heads!

Guess I wasn't clear enough..sorry. I am currently useing the heads and intake from the original 89 firebird block. The block I put In was from a 89 vette the intakes differ in the egr so I can't use that intake or those heads as Im staying CA legal. The original firebird heads that I am currently useing are warped and the intake is damaged as well (engine overheated bent a rod and destroyed the cylnder wall). I rushed this engine set up knowing parts were bad car smokes like a tank and eats coolant.

Re: frankin engine heads!

Ah I see. The 85/86 lower intake should work. Make sure the runner properly covers the cold start injector hole in the intake.

Re: frankin engine heads!

My real worry is what heads to use with this older intake? Or should I just extend the holes?

Re: frankin engine heads!

Any pre-87 style heads will work with that intake. Later heads have a different bolt angle and require tapered washers.
