EGR Replacement step by step direction needed
Does anyone have a step by step procedure to replace an EGR valve on a 1991 T/A with a 5.7TPI? I'd like to remove as little as possible in order to get to the valve. I'm also going to replace the hard tubing to/from the valve and the solenoid and to the front of the engine (not even sure what it's attached to up there).
Also, if someone has good replacement part names/numbers/places to purchase for the EGR itself, hard tubing, connectors I'd appreciate it. I already have a new solenoid. The hard rubber connector that has two line attached to the solenoid is torn up, so I may need one of those too.
I've got to believe someone has a stellar 'how to' on this.......could you please share?

In order to remove the egr bolts. You need to pull the plenum and runners.
rockauto.com is a good source for a replacement.
The vacuum line starts from a nipple under the throttle body.
you might be able to use a crows foot and just remove the plenum. Depending on how tight the bolts are.

You may be able to get by just by removing the plenum. that would cut your grief down a bit. Just not sure how tight it is in there, but should know in a few days. be sure to put some wd-40 thread breaker stuff and soak the bolt threads to increase your odds of an easy removal. let it soak for 20 min or so and then add more. don't over do it, just a little will work its way down the threads and will do the trick and so you don't make a mess.

Why replace it? Get a block off plate and delete it. Tune it out of the ECU.
It's pretty basic - I doubt there's a "stellar" how to on it. You remove things such as the plenum and runners.... look up how to's on doing injectors. Follow the plenum and runner advice. Then when you have all that off change the EGR valve or delete it.

just installed my EGR with both runners and plenum off. i'd say it would be pretty difficult to do w/o removing at least one runner. I'd start with driver and see how it goes. you're not out anything by working your way down to the eventuality of all 3 parts. the problem is the egr bolts are tucked under and you either need a special tool or room to work a wrench in there. its 3/8" BTW.

I've swapped out my EGR valve several times without removing any of the runners. I loosen up the driver side a smidge to make plenum removal a tad easier, but other than that they didn't come off. Once the plenum is off, you can use a combo wrench to get the EGR bolts off. Not the easiest, but I hate having to remove more parts than needed.

I was able to replace my EGR on an 88 LB9 by just removing the plenum.

Would you guys mind cluing us in on what tools you are using to do this? I don't see how one can get a tool in there to do it. I tried with a crowfoot wrench on a rachet, but it doesn't seem possible.
