Last time this happend it was the chip in key was damaged bought new onecand started right up. I've tested key in ignition with vats unplugged and turned key tested good. 4. 75. Put metter on other end on purple white and white and it reads -3. 57 can't get a positive reading. I have the meter on 20 k ohms. If I flip wires it reads 1. Ive checked fuse fuse is good. Please help car is stuck outside.

Re: Vats system
Most of these systems are just too fragile and have too many voltage drops from being 30 years old. Bypass it - get a chip from Tuned Performance here on the forum and bypass the starter enable relay in the driver's kick panel.

Re: Vats system
Buy the resistor pack from wal-mart online, its like 2 bucks per pack. Each pack has 12 resistor values you need. Just measure your resistance and pop the corresponding resistor in. I loaded up on vats packs just incase. Much cheaper than buying a chip. Sorry Tuned.

Re: Vats system
It’s not always the key reader , the passkey module does fail occasionally.
for vats deletes I charge $65 a good way to get Rid of it for good. But the key reader is a common point of failure.

Re: Vats system
How does the "Security " light behave with your delete? Is this done in the passkey module or elsewhere? (ECU)? I think my module (way up in the dash) is failing and I don't want to pull the dash, to install a new (NOS) $200 module.

Re: Vats system
I reprogram the prom in the ecm to eliminate the ecm from expecting the vats hz signal.
To disable the security light I believe there is a fuse for the passkey system or you could remove the bulb.

Re: Vats system
I've had the VATS delete done in the PROM years ago. I would randomly get the security light on. Maybe once every 30 starts or so. Until recently its constantly on. Any ideas? And what's the easiest way to get it to turn off? Is it just a bulb or is there a better way? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Vats system
I think there is a dedicated fuse for the passkey module.
if not the only other option is remove the bulb.
tried to email you Paul but the email provided was invalid.

Re: Vats system
This assumes the entire VATS system always works perfectly, and it's purely a resistance value keeping you from where you want to go. In reality, stock wiring is shoddy, resistance builds up over time, components fail, etc. The best way to get rid of VATs is to tune it out of the chip, the rest of the junk could break tomorrow and it wouldn't matter.
