Blower blocking emissions equip.
Blower blocking emissions equip.
I am in the middle of building an emissions legal supercharged 350 for my 84z. I got a Weiand blower because it works with my carburated engine and has all the provisions for the emissions equipment. My problem is that when the blower belt is placed on the crank pulley the outermost v-belt on my waterpump pulley is blocked by the belt
(3 belt waterpump pulley). If I remember correctly that is the belt for the A.I.R. pump. I think I can toss the EFE and heat stove and still pass emissions but I'm certain I will need the A.I.R. system working to its full potential. Does anyone know if GA does a visual inspection for things like EFE and heat stove or do they just do the sniffer? I just had 2 vehicles tested and didn't ask the technician. Has anyone encountered the same problem with this blower. Holley had been unresponsive to e-mails. I believe I will have to run the A.I.R. pump with another belt. Back to the machine shop
I will post some picks tomorrow when I get the pulleys mounted again. Thanks for any info.

I will post some picks tomorrow when I get the pulleys mounted again. Thanks for any info. I installed a Weiand 142 onto a carbed mid-80s F-body. We used the "super long nose" version that Holley (then Weiand) lists as being for 1986-only small block. It has a 9 1/4" snout instead of the "regular" long nose's 8 1/4" snout. That should clear the AIR pump belt. We didn't have the pump on the particular motor I put this blower on but I beleive there was plenty of room for it had we wanted to use it.
But the super long snout blower you will almost certianly have to install electric fans as it gets the blower belt VERY close to the radiator. You would have a very difficult time spacing a water pump driven fan far enough forward to clear it without digging it into the back of the rad. Again, the car I was working on already had an electric fan conversion (or maybe it came like that from the factory, I don't remember) so I don't know that for sure but it's a likely scenario.
PS- I am installing a long nose 142 onto my 78 Malibu project car this weekend. Fortunately I don't have to contend with an AIR pump. I'm hoping that the blower pulley will clear the stock waterpump driven fan. Near as I can tell i have about 1/4" of clearance from some rough measurements I took.
Shoot me an email if you think I can be of further help. This will be my 3rd isntallation of a Weiand "mini blower" kit.

BTW- I think Holley's tech support sucks, too. Their damned email address for tech support doesn't even work. My emails bounce back! Their website lists no phone number either. Now I'll have to call up Summit or go to my locals speed shop and wrestle the number out of them.
Thanks for the info. My first reaction was that I must have ordered the short nose blower by mistake so I compared my measurements to Holley's site. I got the long nose version like I was supposed to. I will look again for the super long nose version. At least it looks bad as hell sitting on top of the engine. I'll definitely be e-mailing you when I drop this engine in especially when it comes to tuning the carb for the blower. Hopefully I'll get some picks up this weekend so people can see my situation.
I'll put up a photo anyway even though it doesn't show the problem.
