Mini starter
Has anyone ever put a newer mini starter? I've done this several times on older cars, but I can't find one that fits this 84 trans am. The original starter has a 9 Tooth gear, most others have an 11 tooth. Do they interchange?
Re: Mini starter
Report back with the starter part number. Should be engraved into the body if it’s the oe direct drive type.

Re: Mini starter
As long as you have a starter that mounts at the correct distance for a smaller 153 or larger 168 tooth flywheel or flexplate, 9 or 11 teeth is irrelevant. The gear pitch is the same.
I find alot of these cars and really GM cars with 168 tooth "truck" flywheels/flexplates and it is how I build all my engines myself.
