Uh-oh... what sensor is this???

I am installing headers on my GTA (87, L98) and in the process of removing the passenger side manifold I seem to have destroyed the connector from a sensor... It is located towards the rear of the head on the right (passenger) side between #5 and #7 cylinders. All I am left with is a wrecked plastic connector at the end of the wire, which has kind of metla "prongs" - really looks like aluminum coated wire ends. The sensor has a "spout" on it - it looks like the spout from a drink bottle or dish soap - the kind you pull to open. Kinda hard to describe.

Anyway, what is this sensor, and how do I go about getting a replacement wire/connector for it.

Thanks for your help

Eric

I believe that what you believe is correct.

Although I don't believe that you're correct. I KNOW that you're correct.

Eric,

Since you have to replace the fan switch (if you did break off the tang) you might as well replace it with a cooler running fan switch, as well as a T-stat and a chip.

The fan switch is on the passenger side between 6 and 8, the coolant sensor for the dash guage or light is on the drivers side, although it is between 1 and 3 on my car.

I did the same thing and it has been a thorn in my a$$ ever since. But I just today discoved they carry the replacement plug at Pep-boys. (But it is labeled something else) By the way, just about every parts store lists 2 or 3 different fan switches for our cars, save yourself the headache and by the hypertech one.

Thanks for the replies guys. And you can only imagine how stupid I feel I have only been doing this for about 10 years - why should I know what side the #1 cylinder is on

I guess it comes from dropping too many tools on your face while crawling around in 10 inches of space under the jacked up car while trying to get those @#$%! manifold bolts out!!

Anyway, I imagine the sensor itself doesn't come with the connector (which is what is toast). Has anyone got a pic of what the connector looks like??? I totally destroyed it so I have no idea what it is supposed to look like. I don't think I wrecked the switch itself.

BTW, we don't have Pep Boys (or many of the other parts places I often see mentioned on the boards), so BC, if you have the description of that connector that would help.

Thanks again

don't know if this is gonna help but the knock sensor is the same connector. i replaced my fan switch connector(it too was toasted, literally) with a knock sensor one and they are identical.
