vortec?
vortec?
305 TBI. putting probably an LT1 cam in. go with vortec heads, deal with HAVING to alos put in new intake manifold and get a TBI-4 bbl adaptor, or go for L98 heads? what about the LO3 heads?
Matt,
Vortec heads aren't "all that" for a 305. For what you might spend on those heads and a different intake, you might do better with World S/R Torquers designed for the 305. Forget about L98 or any head designed for a 350, since valve clearance could be an issue on the smaller bore 305. As for the L03 heads, you might as well use the stock TBI heads with some porting and would probably do just as well.

I went with the Vortec set-up on my LO3 because I had them from a 350 that crapped on me. They pull well. I've had mine over 130 in forth and still pulling.
You could install some 081 TPI 305 heads on the 305. You could pick them up for cheap, port them if you are able and install a carb intake with adapter and it should go with the cam well.
The intake, heads and cam will make a differance that you can feel. You will need a good exhaust system to go with it also. Theres where the money that you save using the cheaper head/intake setup would payoff. Without opening up the exh any head gains would be limited.
If I was to do it again I would go this route as it's much cheaper.
