Changing drain pans ...

Can't stop my dad's 94 Chevy Suburban from leaking oil through the plug. Might need to change drain pans. Anyone have an idea what we are looking at??? Easy/simple/pain in the a$$??? My dad's under the impression that you might have to undo motor mounts and lift the engine a bit to get it out??? True? And is there anything that hangs down from the motor into the pan that would make it harder to get off?

thank you ...

Kurt

For thirdgens you have the drop the trans if t a 5spd and an auto i think you only have to remove the cover and undo the trans mount so you can tilt the engine.....

Most full size chevy trucks the pan will just drop out. You will have to remove the starter and the trans line brackets, but they usually have enough room to drop, the 4x4s for sure do.

I have rarely seen a bad pan, usually its the plug or lack of correct plug/gasket that causes a leak... The threads in the pan are tougher than any plug.

The oil pump pick up hangs down in the pan, and sometimes you will have to rotate the engine just a little as you pull it out so the lip on the pan will clear the crank throws.

Not a big deal, but I would make sure you dont have the plug installed crossed threaded or the wrong plug/gasket combo on there.
