Starter mismatch help needed

I have a 83 Berlinetta; retrofitted with a 85 TPI 305. I have pulled the 305 and installed a 350 from a 74 Nova. Here is the problem:

The 305 had the 153 tooth flexplate, along with the straight starter mounting bolts. The 350 also has a 153 tooth flexplate, but is drilled for the diagonal starter mounting bolts. According to the guy I bought this 350 from , the small flexplate is what it came with... so why the hell can't I find a starter to fit? it seems all starters that I have test fitted are 1/2" away from the flexplate, indicating the need for a 168 tooth flexplate.

Anybody know any diagonal/small flexplate apps?

Well, I was hoping to avoid it, but I will need to drill and tap for my HD straight starter. Luckily, the outer bolt hole will work, so "all" I need to do is get a long 5/16 drill bit, sheath it in some 3/8" tubing, and use the starter as a pattern.

I've alway's used 168 tooth flexplates on my late model 350's.

Try asking for a 69 Camaro Starter at the parts counter. This is what I alway's use for driver side dip stick/late model 350's.

I almost forgot, the two different starters use a different bolt length on one of the bolts.
