Timing marks????guage?

hey guys ...i've noticed that i do not have a silver little peice of metal that indicates how much timing ....can i buy one of these ..and how will i know where to mount it ...i've noticed white chalk marked over a groove in the harmonic balancer......sooo i guess somebody was doing the timing on it.. i'm wondering because ....my vacuum advance is hooked up to the driverside port on the base of the carb..wich has vacuum on it at all times...(kind of defeating vacuum advance) when i unplug the hose and the carb port.. the motor sounds quite a bit more powerfull..but the engine gets a little rough.........................soo ..i guess i should put the vacuum advance on the pas side vac port on the carb and retime it....................i dont have egr..soo...as i have read i should give it a little less advance .....correct ????

i've never messed with timing before...........

thanx

Turbo,

No guesses on horsepower, but you can get a timing tab at any good speed shop or parts store. The trick will be in finding the true TDC of the engine and installing the tab in the correct position. You'll probably need a piston stop and degree wheel for that if you don't already have one.
