If your doing this for more performance don't bother, it won't make enough difference you could feel. I gutted mine because the bricks were broken inside. If yours is like mine was the best way to get it off is with a airchisel, it bolted on in the back and was clamped in the front. I had to cut the air tube close to the cat and then hammered the hole closed. I took a long piece of 1/2" rebar and knocked out the already broken bricks inside, took me about an hour, and I'm not sure how toxic the stuff is but try not to breath the dust. And then get ready for your car to sound like crap!!! I coulden't stand the way mine sounded after and went and bought a high-flow cat for it, that made it sound much better.

i agree.... if the cat isnt burned down, dont bother. As for toxicity, i wouldnt worry, the ceramic bricks are coated w/ platinum and palladium. Theyre inert.

hey i know what u mean about after u gut the cat and it sounding like crap. my friend did that to his 89 trans am with the 305 tbi and after he took it off to see if it would sound like my car with out a cat....which it didnt even compare too. he decides hey im goin to gut the cat who cares well he had some one else at skool do it becuz he cant work on cars for crap. and after he put it back up and tryed making everything fit back to gether he starts it up and soulded like crap even with the cat off it sounded like crap. and before he messed with anything the car sounded good. it had a dynomax cat back that was put on from the pervious owner(which was done correctly) and it sounded good and well since he screwed with the cat the car sounds like crap and the hole life of the car is going to crap. but thats just what has happened to someone i know who thought he was being kool and gutting his cat becuz he thought he would get a proformence gain out of it but didnt.
