car keeps on running AFTER the key is out
car keeps on running AFTER the key is out
I just bought an 84 anniversary TA. It originally came with a 305/Auto. But has been converted to a NON-electronic carbed 327, and 5-speed. When I go to turn the car off and take the key out, the ignition cylinder turns and the key comes right out, yet the car keeps on running. What could be causing this weird problem?!?
Where do I start?
thanx

Ok, my car is not doing that. It doesn't "diesel" at all.
The problem with mine is that it never shuts off, it just keeps running normally. It's the same before and after the key is removed.

does it have an msd ignition? they have a "run-on" problem that creates feed back to the ingnition through the alternator charging wire. they come with a diode you can solder inline to stop it. mine had that same problem.

I'm having basically the exact same problem. Check out my post "HELP! car wont die and tach goes crazy". I really have no idea whats going on.
No MSD ignition. I'm thinking it must be a wiring problem, though.
When the key is turned off, doesn't it basically just shut the spark off? The ignition switch is what controls that, right?
Maybe she needs a new ignition switch...

I was playing with my wires one day and found two huge harnesses in the driver/firewall corner, inside the engine bay. Play with those. I think that if they were not connected, then the engine would run, and if they were connected the engine would stop. All of the wires were really torn up. I had to do the quick electrical tape fix, but plan on replacing my entire wiring harness if I ever do an engine swap.

*edit* sorry, I'm really tired, so I might not make much sense.
