IROCs out of storage and acting up
Hi,
Just pulled my 89 IROC 250 700R4 9 bolt rear our of storage
I was having some trouble with a strange clunk when first engaged, turns out its something in the rear end (not u joints, not transmission mount, my mechanic agrees) He recommended keeping an eye out for a new rear and drive it till it dies. He wasnt overly worried since it only happens when the car is put in Drive or Reverse from Park or Neutral. I figured ok, it has done this for a while, maybe its no big deal. Now, when I place the car into park from being driven its reving quite high, to maybe 2500 rpms it also seems to bog way down when first engaged. It never did this before. Its like it has this giant load thats being dropped on it. The car came back up to school with me, a 140 mile trip, and not as much as a hiccup aslong as I'm not parking it or trying to reverse. Any ideas on what is going on? Could this be something that will go away with more use? The last time it was driven was Xmas so it hasnt been extremely long. The whole car shakes now as its being put in and taken out of gear. I did change the poly trans mount but the one I removed was poly also. Sorry about the run on wanted to get all the details in here.
Thanks in advance,
Martin

Revving that high in park--it will bog way down when you put it into gear. Putting it into reverse and drive at that rpm will cause a big clunk as well. Your whole problem could be the high rpm idle--get that problem fixed first. How long was it in storage? Did you leave the tank full and add some stabil? Could be some bad gas gumming things up.

Yea, full tank, stabilizer stuff. The high idles only when its going in and out of gear. Once its in gear or if its just been started it chugs along between 750-1000 just as always. Its smooth too not going back or forth or anything like that.

Also it flares up to that, it doesnt stay there for too long, or it doesnt bog for too long. Its strange.
Thanks
