88 Shelby Z
What do you guys think of them? There is one for sale for $1295. An '88, blue, 5 speed, HITHERE little over 100k miles Shelby Z Daytona. They have the 4 cylinder turbo in them. HITHERE was thinking of buying one as HITHERE good gas mileage car. It's nice and cheap too. Do you think it would be really fast? Don't they run like low 15's stock? What can HITHERE do to my car to beat one? Gears, stall, Pro-Built tranny, engine rebuild, overbore are planned. Check my sig for the rest. Thing HITHERE should just sell the t/HITHERE to mod the Daytona, or save my money to mod the Trans Am? What should HITHERE do?

Thanks Ian. What do you think? Should HITHERE get it. Would be HITHERE nice daily driver so the Trans Am can be my racer. Can HITHERE beat one with my planned mods?

Yea I no. They always have head gasket problems, but a boost controller, blow off valve, exhaust, header, intake and they can be in the low to high 14s. They run about a 15.5 stock, and once I start ripping the shifter, it would be fun. But I doubt I would do all that work to it if it is my little beater car. I would probably just do exhaust and wheels. I'm not looking for a "pimped out" ride, but I want it to be pretty quick. It will be significantly faster than my Trans Am is right now. Tough decision. They are rare cars too, only 7,280 or so made that year. They have a lot of potential, and it would be a great project car, but I don't know about a daily driver. They are not that bad looking, the back looks a lot better than the front. I would definitely lose the plymouth symbol in front too (ew). I was thinking originally of getting like a nice little 2 door, 5 speed 94-97 Cavalier or Sunfire. But this little beast of a car is so cheap. What to do?

is it the 2.2L or the 2.5L turbo, sounds odd but the smaller displacement(the 2.2L) has more hp than the 2.5L, u ever notice that they kinda look like a mini transam? lol i shall call him "mini-TA" 1/8th the looks...1/8th the power

I own a '88 daytona shelby Z, well actually 2 but only one runs. They don't get good gas milage (turbo = bad gas milage), the turbo is just too much fun and you won't be able to keep your foot out of the gas. I also agree they aren't very reliable, that's why they're so cheap. If it's a T2 then they have like 174 hp stock and 210 ft*lb torque. The daytona is a heavy car ~3000 lbs for a FWD.
Also they don't make the best winter car (turbo = tire spin in rain or snow), that's why I bought it/them.
The 2.2 has more power b/c of bigger turbo (more boost), bigger cam, better exhaust, and better heads(i think).

the car has the standard turbo II from 1988. Curb weight is 2800lbs. And I am pretty sure it has 224hp. It is so cheap though, and anything gets better gas mileage than a V8 with a cam and bigger fuel pump.

If it's a TII then it has 174 hp, the TIII (certain IROC Daytonas) had 224 hp but it had a bigger turbo, and DOHC lotus heads and wasn't made in '88.
If you have a Carbed V8 it'll get better gas milage but I doubt you'll get more than 15 mpg with the 2.2L TII driving around town, unless you're driving miss daisy.
My daytona with power seats, power windows etc. weighed either 2940 or 2980 lbs w/o me in it.
It'll be a fun car as long as it runs good, just don't expect to get V8 like power with 4 banger fuel economy. They do run high 15s stock and probably 13s with little work(exhaust/boost controller/fuel/traction) if you do it right and don't blow it up.

hithere is an april fools joke. I am looking for a little, cheap, beater car. I was going to buy one, drop the t/a insurance, and build a 383 for it. Find a 350 block at e-town for $50 bucks, get a nice big crank, and build a nice stroker. It will take a while, but I have 3 more years of college anyway.

I was going to do that Alex, but I decided to just go stroker. More power and more potential. Plus they sound really nice.
