My brother's ride vs my formula 350

I'm guessing that unless I use nitrous my brother's gonna smoke me!?! Just goes to show you.......well I'm sure it goes to show you something!!!!

He lives in Eugene, Oregon and I live in Chico, California so I doubt he's gonna drive down here and give it a go....and I'm certainly not driving up there the way the price of gas has gone up.

MY BROTHER"S RIDE:

His car is so clean you could eat off any part of it......he said he get's a kick out of checking the oil at the gas station and having dudes walk by with their tongues hanging out. He hasn't run it down the 1/4 mi. YET.....keeps saying "it's a sports car........".

Well at least I'm not too worried about a shopping cart rolling into mine...... . And you can't beat the sound of a 350 on Flowmasters......

So it's stock with just a custom front mount and some polished piping? (I doubt it's chrome)

first want to say I find this funny that since newbie has had his problem with me saying all I do is rant and rave about how good imports are and how they are so much better then thirdgens and I'm just a r<x>icer and and that he is happy his fairly modded car can beat my 16 second car or can woop my other car which has a whole 68hp and such all the rx7 threads have been comming about.

but as far as I can tell who knows who will win

don't know much about the car him stock vs you prolly you taking the win being it looks like you have quite a bit more done then just a sotck 350

but all I can assume on the car is the year is a 93 and I'm guessing the R1 package. other then that *shrug* looks like he can have quite a bit of looks good parts but not much for performance or he could have quite a bit of go fast goodies. so I give him anywhere from mid 14's to mid 11's

Amean to that. Your motor is begging you for a custom prom. You have a potential 12 second set-up there trapped in a 14 second tune.

Man, get a good solid tune on that car, some 3.73's and you should knock out mid-low 12's and on DR's hit high 11's. Thats an awesome setup but it HAS to be tuned right. On my Edelbrock setup, I liek it because you plug it into your laptop and record everything you do while driving, then itll basically help you tune for the optimum settings. we put it on a 305 and it was a little too much for it but it ran and purredl ike none other and the dash mounted control box was helpful without a laptop but when you had the laptop on it, it was awesome tuning it.

Goodl uck and get that bad ride tuned!

in his current tune as long as he is running stock boost give him about a mid to high 13 if he can drive it right.
I admit I don't know much about the thirdgens (rx7) and how well they perform with exhuast mods but I know on a second gen they can do quite a bit but still most can't launch a rx7 right

but I agree with the others here after going back through your mods and so forth get that thing tuned....

He can't make much more power without after market fuel management which it doesn't look like he has. In fact, I think he won't be able to go much over 12 psi if I remember correctly. So, judging from what the more knowledgable members said about your car, looks like you've got this one just fine.

good point forgot about that one stu

but I would still think he should be able to get a little faster

but as far as 12 psi
could have sworn the stock injectors... well on second thought I scratch that the stock injectors sucked and already where mostly maxed out

so if he was able to get some better injectors he might be able to do a little better even using the stock system (though no recomended)

but either you way you have a healthy combo and if you can launch you can beat him

just don't even come close to expecting to take him in the twisties.... if you do that give your brother a flat tire first and make sure he sees it before the race. you win by default

ya'll missed where he listed that he has the Apexi Power FC

that's a standalone, i'd say he's got quite a bit of expandability, power options

ok now I feel like a tard
I read the walboro pump thing many many many times and even after you posted about the apexi power fc I still missed that part a few times

but without fuel upgrades I would won'der how much he really can get out of htat car. bigger injectors would be a nice plus

but at least this guy is on the right start with the later year rx7

get rid of the factory crap like the radiator, ecu, intercooler and replace with much better good stuff

gotta love the days mazda goes cheap and just about ruins a good car

Re: My brother's ride vs my formula 350

You seem to know a lot about cars so if you dont mind I need some good advice. I have a 85 transam tpi that originally came with the 305 and I just recently dropped a brand new crate 87 firebird 350 in it. It drives good except for getn up to 220-235 degrees when I ride on street for more than 10 min and I dont feel like Im getn the torque and power I should be getin from it even when its cold on the highway. Is there anything I need to and can change from the original 305 parts. I heard I need to change my injectors from the stock 305 injectors to some 350 injectors, is this true. I have a 185 degree thermostat in there instead of the stock 195, a brand new radiatior, im not loosing coolant, and i just got the system flushed. Do you think the water pump is to blame? Please help me out as one Firebird lover to the next, I dont know how to veiw your response bein that im new to this site so if you could email me cainestl@yahoo.com I would highly appreciate it.

thanks,

Caine

Bump From the dead. Firebird is mine now. Running alot better. And his engine has changed. Twin Turbo engine Blew, so now He is putting in a brand new Ls2. And for cainestl, I would try a new Thermostat.

Caine, this is very common when switching something, and/or exposing the coolant system to allow air entry. With then engine cold, pull the radiator cap off, and start the car. Don't worry, the coolant will not spew out. Once the car is started, turn your heater controls ON, and let the engine idle for approximately 5-10 minutes. Your going to need to get some additional antifreeze coolant, as you will be adding it to your radiator until the system is adequately full. When no more bubbles are prevalent in your coolant (through careful observation), put the radiator cap back on, and your good to go. If the problem persists, do the very process again. If it still persists, you might just have yourself a sticky thermostat....

You need to install 24-lb fuel injectors, as well as getting your hands on a properly calibrated prom (chip). Focus on the injectors for now, and before you purchase a new chip, consider going with an entirely new ECM. The '85 ECM leaves a lot to be desired.

honestly you prolly need to get a new thermo and unrestict the plenum and runners and if you didnt do it already you may need to replace your fuel pump with a bigger lph/gph

in the US from 87-91 they could be either or (but turbo was only single), from 79-86 they where all N/A and from 93-95 all where twin turbo. so in a way you are partially right

Hey thanks for the advice. The overheating thing with the bubbles definitely worked. I had alot of air left in my system. Now shes as cool as eskimo punani. Do you know where i can get a high performance ecm and prom chip to benefit my 350s performance. I heard i can get the prom chip off a 85 corvette with a 350 is that true. Anyway thanks for all your help bro.
