4.6L mustang and third gen

Alright so he has a 4.6L mustang with
Full bolt ons from intake to exhaust
trick flow heads
mild cam
stock drivetrain (5 sp)
street tires

I have:
388 fully forged
comp cams XE284
Duration: 284/296
Lift: .507/.510
LCA: 110
Cam advanced 1*
weiand stealth intake
holley 700
3" cat-back with gutted cat
3.42 posi rear on sticky street tires
T-5 (might have the 700r4 in by then but doubtful)
port and polished heads with 2.02/1.5 valves

My heads are holding me back the worst...But who will win? Im thinking the stang but he cant really drive.

sounds like a good race. Unfortunately I don't have any info on the outcome. Maybe 25thmustang might chime in...

What year is the car? A bolt on, cammed 4.6 "could" be an 11 second car on a set of tires. It could also be a 14 second car!

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

A reference pic of a similar mustang could help us.

If it's a soft edge, you have to find a year since 94-95 were 5.0s and 96-98 were the 4.6.

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

I dont know who would win but I have been a Ford Man since birth ( i bleed blue). I have a 97 mustang Gt with an Aluminator block, patriot stage 3 heads, and a Street racer cam with .500 lift, high nickel forged pistons and crank, a Tremec TKO 600, Aluminum Driveshaft, and 4.10 Posi gears. its estimated @ the crank to be around 450 hp. but i dont know if his is that built but id bet on the mustang. these 4.6L engines can rev to 6000 RPM in stock form and build HP all the way to the limit. So all in all i would bet on the stang in my experience if i was the stang driver. ive beat LS1s. but if hes BS'ing id vote u. i dont know if that helps or not

Beat an LS1 in stock form? () Or beat it with those mods? Cause why even bother saying you beat an LS1 with 450hp... Of course you'll beat an lS1 with 450hp. lol

I bet YOUR car dont make more than 320 to the wheels....Which would mean you're making 380 at the crank... No way that a 2-valve is makin 450 at the crank!! You would have to spin it to like 8500rpm...

My heads aren't bad but dont flow what a set of AFR's would.

Ok for an update, I now have a built 700r4 with 2400 stall (came with the tranny) and I should have 3.42's out back with a spool and drag radials.

now who might win?

o did i mention he will be on a old set of crappy directionals.

I'm hoping with a 3300 stall this summer I will hit high 11's

Thanks,
Chas

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

ive got my money on the thirdgen. a stroker motor makes a **** pot of torque. and i hate to say it but no single overhead cam 4.6 made power even with bolt ons they seam to be dogs. now if he went to 32 valve heads that would be a completely different story.

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

most modded mustangs are only good for making noise and they need some sort of power adder to get any faster extremely rare that someone has a fast one with just bolt ons theres a high chance hes just another noise maker. but who knows.

I doubt you will be running a high 11.... That is quite a time slip with slightly modded heads.

the heads are 2.02/1.50 they aren't slightly modded..they have quite a bit of work. i have seen a lot faster camaros with a lot less done. I will keep this thread on the back burner till the snow is gone...

The 1996-98 pre-PI 4.6s are total dogs. Maybe 180rwhp in stock trim... Even with optimized full intake/exhaust and better cams, he'll be at around 230-240rwhp. I don't see how you lose this race...

Huh? A 1997 GT has 215HP...less HP than most stock TPI cars and far less TQ. The SN95s also gave up a lot of the Fox-bodys weight advantage. They are 15-second cars all day long...

My 96 ws6 stock would tear sn-95 stangs apart, and was neck and neck with a vortech super charged 97 gt. It would be better if it was a 5.0 since I have had 2 foxes and they were fun and quick. Early mod motors suck without aftermarket or pi heads and some good money invested and gear and exhaust and slicks and turbo and a blower and nitrous and a diesel motor and gods hand......

Well, just race him & see who wins! I've beaten a couple of Mustangs in my IROC-Z. I'm not afraid of a Mustang & neither should you be! Haha, just enjoy the race & try to make a video if you can.

Curious about this one too... There's a ton of shitty stangs around here who like to show off... I wanna show them a peice but never really got a chance to get a clear straightaway away from traffic.

Find one & see how it turns out. Or do what I do. Let one find you, then get up next to him & freaking hit the gas pedal. Make sure not to hit anybody in the process!

I think it's funny when a Mustang drives behind my car to the left or right side slow enough that you notice them. I've had several Mustangs do that to me. My best guess is that they're trying to figure out which car I have because there aren't alot of true 350 IROC's out here.

I think the third gen has the 4.6 if its that old crappy 97 defiantly my buddy has a 94 5.0 GT with a crap load of bolt ons and my friends 94 z would eat that thing alive every time and it only had a damn flowmaster on the car and the rest was stock. Im waiting to finish my car to take a run with my friends 5.0 rustang

i dont see how the mustang could get this third gen, mine has shitty exhaust and it laughs at 4.6 mustangs, unless you just spin through the first three gears, i'd say you got him. famous words "there's no replacement for displacement."

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

His car might be a little faster now...

Here is a list of upgrades he did.
Intake
cams
heads
exhaust (full)
gears
bottom end untouched

Its a fuel injected car with 2v heads, i have no idea on the power he could make with these mods.

His last car he dumped 8k into a 5.0 fox body and the best he could get out of it was 13.6 (5 speed)

This car is also a 5 speed and he can't drive.

EDIT: I was just looking on summit and the trick flow top end kits is only rated for 390hp/375tq. I should have about 450hp/450tq (at least) so I still don't think i have anything to worry about with my car running the exhaust uncorked and being auto.

low 13's high 12's. they are 32 valve cars with a solid 8.8. like a cross between a cobra and a gt. wat i would be looking for in a stang.

My buddy "said" he put new heads on his car but would the 32v heads interchange to the 16v? Because i could be loosing my race if they can. If im not mistaken the 32v is a DOHC motor and the 16v is a SOHC.

EDIT: Doing a little research told me they didn't make the mach 1's until 2003-2004 and were a limited build. basically the same motor as the SVT Cobra but without the badges.

Here is a list of upgrades he did.
Intake

exhaust (full)

Its a fuel injected car with 2v heads, i have no idea on the power he could make with these mods.

His last car he dumped 8k into a 5.0 fox body and the best he could get out of it was 13.6 (5 speed)

This car is also a 5 speed and he can't drive.

EDIT: I was just looking on summit and the trick flow top end kits is only rated for 390hp/375tq. I should have about 450hp/450tq (at least) so I still don't think i have anything to worry about with my car running the exhaust uncorked and being auto.
wow sux for your friend, I put 3500 into my 88 gt including buying it for 1200 and went 12.7 on the motor and 11.40 on the bottle. lmao

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

i'd have to go with the iroc. i've seen a 350 sbc in a 87 camaro beat a procharged o4 gt. i doubt that 4.6 is close to that. one of my friends put full exhaust and intake on his 96 gt. he got it dyno tuned and put down a whopping 208 to the ground! hahaha! i doubt you'll have any problems.

Re: 4.6L mustang and third gen

what do you mean all cam?? he was supposed to be spraying but the wide open throttle switch got knocked loose. his cam wasn't that big, he just had a really tight lsa. i think it was around a 108 or 109. thats what made it sound so choppy.
