ran with a bike last week

I was driving around the local cruise spot last week. I turned off the main road to make my way back home. A silver and blue bike came up next to me and was pacing me for quite awhile...probably 3 or 4 miles. I was wondering what he was doing...he's on a bike, I had nothing for him to race lol

About a mile later I give in, and shift into 2nd gear at about 30mph. He shifts into a lower gear also. We start a "race" to about 50mph and we were stuck next to each other the whole time....I was very surprised!

Thinking it was a fluke, we did it again, 20mph to about 60mph and same thing....we were stuck to each other like glue!

We raced one more time, but this time it was from about 10mph off a red light to about 110-120mph. Again, stuck to each other like glue! The last race I shifted my car at about 6500 rpm since thats where the power drops off. Towards the end of the race I think he got anxious and missed a shift as I pulled about a tad more then car on him and I heard a pop from his bike. I got on the brakes hard and looked down and was still doing about 90mph and realized what I just did was pretty stupid. I'm too old for street racing anymore lol. Anyway, he pulled past me giving me the thumbs up, and I followed him onto the highway. He then turned off the highway onto a side street beeping his horn and waving so I did the same.

I immediately called a friend of mine who finds it hard to believe a car can hang with a bike, and told him of what I just did! I told him I know nothing about bikes so I didnt know what it was, but I described the colors to him. My friend said "hmm, wonder if that was Jonathan?". Makes sense, since the bike went towards Jonathans house. My buddy David called Jonathan and as soon as he answered the phone, he confirmed that he had raced me and said my car was slow

He also said he needed to rejet his bike after putting a new muffler on it. Again I know nothing about bikes so im not sure how much his bike was effected, but GSXR1ks are supposed to be way faster than what I raced lol

Anyway, thats my story. It was a rush. He wants to run again some day....we'll see. I don't want to get my a$$ handed to me

I beat a Ninja 500 during the summer... I was impressed. From a stop till about 40mph we were side by side then 50 mph+ i just walked away.... Good guy, stopped later the same night and talked to him. Pretty cool with the whole thing.

Re: ran with a bike last week

you do have to remember that a newer 1000 cc bike makes about 190 hp..

so that's pretty crazy. i have a fz1 and i dont have to get on the throttle to rape 600cc bikes which with pro riders should run 10s so, either his bike was real really, really out of tune or your car is supafast.

it is kool running against a bike though.

Re: ran with a bike last week

I pulled on a 600 a few years back with my BMW 325is. He was pretty much at my back bumper till like 120 then he fell back I pulled to 130 and let off. I miss that car. I wouldnt call bs at all if the bike needed a tune. However if it had a tune watch out. My zx-10 was crazy fast. 70mph in second gear with 4 more to go. Hit 150 only once on it though. Hit some wind and saw my life flash before my eyes. I kept in under 140 after that, in town lol.

Striker911: that was my favorite body for BMW, and I would love to get my hands on an M3 from that vintage.

A buddy of mine used to be into f-bodies, the over the past few years he has switched to sport bikes and helicopters. We have raced his 1000 GSXR against my '79 Camaro (apporx 350 HP) quite a few times, just for kicks. I would never even come close, that bike was so crazy fast (and my friend is an excellent driver), I may as well had been walking. OP: I think your friend was playing with you.

Re: ran with a bike last week

you do have to remember though, motorcycles are very very tune sensitive. When your working with less than a 1 liter motor and pushing almost 200 hp it's bound to be pretty picky to keep happy......

hell, an air filter and muffler can change the tune on a bike so much that you will have flat spots and dead spots in your power band throughout. I can honestly say that a 12 sec car almost looks like it's running back words vs a 10 second bike though....... theres a lot to factor in though, if he was a gear or 2 higher than need be or if bike was in a poor state of tune the bike could easily be screwed on that run.....

just my opinion though.

Ya it was cool I miss it, but it cost. I did most of the work but parts where sky high. Paid 9k for it, & on the way to make the last payment after owning it for less then 6 months the trans went out. Another 2k. It only had like 105k on it too. Spent all my money on it for like 3 years till I finally got out. 13k total on that pit got me $3500 when I sold it. I just couldn't stand to look at it anymore.

Would be driving it and it would just freak out and die. Wouldn't restart till u unplugged the battery like 10 times. Id say if u cant buy it new dont buy it with that type of car. Not worth the risk. I was down 10k and all I got was some pics. It wasnt worth it.

Would like a 4 door m3 though with a stick. Got owned by one from a dig when I was in my beemer. I didn't even get out of first and gave up.

A ninja 500 can run 13 flat all day. Doubtful many peoples cars her could even do that so no chance in hell you could have stayed with a 1000 sorry but that extremly hard to believe.

Re: ran with a bike last week

370rwhp 3rdGen against a GSX-R1000 that wasn't a complete raping by the bike?

a) Bike was broken...bad.
b) Rider was broken...bad.

I'm not calling you a liar, but something seriously doesn't add up. I raced a piped ZX6 when I was running 576rwhp/590rwtq in my 2000 Z28 and barely stayed with him. A properly running/ridden GSX-R1000 can dip into the 9s and at the very worst will run bottom-11s with an insane trap-speed.

My modded 929RR puts down about 140rwhp and will leave most anything for dead, but I would still have my hands full with a stockish newer GSX-R1000...

Re: ran with a bike last week

I had a 954RR, and that thing pulled harder than any car ive ever riden or driven in. It was scary fast. Butthen again i was never a real bike guy.

As for the E36 convo up there.
I had an E36 M3 4door.. Sold it a few months ago for my C4 Corvette. And i really do regret it. That car really pulled on the top end. Nothing could pass me at 55mph+ unless i let them. I remeber running a really nice modded fox body on the LIE (long island expressway) He was an older guy 40's prob. He could not beileve he got left behind by an old Beemer. Before we ran, i asked is it fast, he said "yeah, faster than that thing".. hahah he was wrong. He than just did something the R's do..lol

Re: ran with a bike last week

Well, The story is infact true. Here's the funny part. When Justin called me that night and he told me the colors of the bike I immediatly thought of my dads next door neighbor, Jon. So when I got off the phone with Justin I called Jon. This is how the phone call went. Ring, Ring, "What's up"(Jon) "Oh,not a whole lot"(Me) "Tell him his car is slow!!!"(Jon) Me, I just laughed after that. Now he did say he started off in too high of a gear in one run and that he needed to re-jet his carbs. Which I believe. And I also think he will whoop Justin once his bike is right. We'll see..........we'll see........

"Carbs"? How old of a bike are we talking? The Big-4 bike manufacturers all went to fuel-injection around 2001. Besides, not re-jetting for a pipe isn't going to cost more than a few HP unless the bike is pinging/knocking like crazy. Even a 1000cc sportbike with FULL exhaust will only gain about 6HP from a fuel tune.

I'm not trying to be an a$$, but this sounds more like a rider issue than anything else.

I'm only going by what he told me. My bike is a 78 KZ650 so past that I dont know that much about them. And it well could have been a rider issuse. Odds are he was smoked up or pilled up. All and all a good kid but he does have a few bad habbits. And we all have them in some way or another. legal or not! LOL

I agree with the guy talking about dead and flat spots in the power band. I could literally hear the flat spots when he was on it! It was still fun tho

I got to thinking about this and its not true. My dad has a 2005 Honda Rebel and a 2007 Honda Shadow and neither one of them are fuel injected. But maybe you ment performance bikes??? Oh wait, no my G/F has a 2007 Ninja and it has a carb too. I had a 2001 Susuki Savage it had a carb but that was right around the time you said they went to EFI so I understand that one, and of course it wasnt a crotch rocket...........I dunno

All serious sport-bikes went to fuel-injection in the early 2000s with Kawasaki being the last to convert in 2003. The Honda CBRs went over in 2000 (hence the CBR600F4i, with i standing for "injected") with Yamaha and Suzuki following shortly after. The lower-tier sport bikes like the Ninja 500 (which hasn't had a redesign since 3rdGens were new) and low-budget bikes may have stayed carb longer. The original post mentioned a GSXR-1000, which was why I thought it was a sportbike.

Understood. Just feeling argumentative!LOL I kinda figured thats what you ment. kinda testing you as you will notice I didnt mention the size of her Ninja. Point taken. So either you deduced she had a small bike or she was not a big woman!LOL. He told me the 1000's still had carbs which seemed odd to me but I didnt look and I didnt argue. My 88 T/A is EFI TPI(had to throw that in to keep this third gen related!LOL)
