idle question
idle question
my new engine is running around 1100 at idle and i'd like to know why. anyone know what exactly controls the idle? someone told me my nitrous throttle body plate is causing the jump because i don't have any lines up to it?
i don't see why this would be a problem seeing as how they aren't that large but would it be possible?

If your nitrous throttle body plate is letting air in then it is a vacuum leak and it will cause a higher idle. If it is not letting any air in then there is no problem. Try plugging the ports and see if that helps you out.

Your IAC controls the idle speed, or is supposed to anyways. It's the little thing under the TB with the square 4 wire connector, but you already knew this if you just got done with a new engine install. If you have a nitrous plate that doesn't have lines on it, it would be causing a vacuum leak. I don't belive that this alone would put your idle at 1000 rpm, although you don't want this to be happening. Your MAP/MAF, which ever you have, will be bent out of shape over it. You could easily remidy that problem by pluging the ports where the nitrous lines hook up to the plate. Long story short, I would look into the IAC and related cmponents for your idle problem.
PS-thanks for your help over on the suspension/chassis board

thanks guys, i'm sure it's something really easy. when you try to think to hard about something sometimes you overlook the easiest solutions.
i'm just going to sit back and take a break from it all and i'm sure the solution will pop up. thanks guys!!

It could very well be your TPS is bad or missadjusted. If it reports over a certain throttle position then the ecm will think your driving down the road and set the IAC motor at a certain point making it idle high.
