F-Body L98 vs Vette L98 heads

Are the vette heads far better than the regular L98 heads? Or is it worth it to wait for some Trick Flows or AFR's?

The reason I dont want to go with vortecs is because I want to switch from TBI to HSR and IIRC, HSR's cant work on Vortecs.

I would go aftermarket if I was you. More meat for porting and the quality of the castings is much superior.

But as far as comparisons between the two they are very similar. The Vette L98's have the angle plugs, aluminum material, slightly different exhaust port design and 58cc chambers that the iron L98's dont have. Other than that, they are extremely similar.

if you found a set, and ported them, you will have very good heads for very cheap. the 58cc will raise your CR but a lot... probably around a point or less. If you are on a budget, then go with the vette heads... if not, then dont worry. There is a lot more to port on aftermarket heads then there is on thoes vette ones.

The two sets of stock heads are like mentioned above are very similar. The exhaust ports on the vette heads can be ported to flow much more than the iron heads with little effort. I bought a set of new vette heads about 3 yrs ago for $900 when I didn't know better. I got AFR's a few months back and it's the best purchase I've made. Go with aftermarket heads over the vette heads or even the vortecs. The vette heads just can't keep up anymore with the comp. unless you pay 2g's to have Lingenfelter port them. And then they will only flow about the same as a set of $1100 Trickflows or $1400 AFR's. If you wait to go with TF's or AFR's contact Brian at Total Engine Airflow. Great prices and great customer service.
