MAF to speed density

How would you convert a maf tpi to speed density? Do you just have to change the wiring and computer or what?

Doing the swap is fairly easy when you actually do it. A Few things to remember though are:

If you want you can go to street and performance and purchase the Cold Start injector block off stuff.

It will be much more cost effective for you to re-pin your MAF wire harness.

Go to the ECM interchange list and try to get an ECM from the lesser known vehicles on that list from a junkyard.

That is basically it. Worked for me. Good Luck.

I dont have a tpi harness, I`m removing the tbi system when i do my engine. So would going with the painless wiring for speed density be my best route?

Well, your question seems to have changed but. . .

No, before I'd spend the money on a painless harness, new sensors (seems used one need replaced when doing a retro-fit to get things running right) an ECM and the equipment to burn the chip to make it run right, I'd just get the HLY-950-101 from Summit and program it with a laptop. Not to mention if you're not pretty familiar with auto wiring separating the harness is not a *painless* ordeal!

But, if you're like me tuning/burning your own chips is part of the fun. Actually, I have all three capabilities, MAF, Speed Density and the Holley Commander 950. I run the 730 speed density because it's easiest for me to tune. My next EFI will be with the Holley.

Do not spend the money for a painless wiring harness. Go to the tech articles and click on the MAF to MAP swap and use those pin outs to re-pin your old harness. If you label the wires from your old TBI system then you will know what wire is what, then just re-pin accordingly. Re-pinning your harness will introduce you to much more knowledge than buying a painless harness. If when you are re-pinning it you decide that you can't do it and NO ONE can help you than by all means spend the money and give painless their ***-awful profit. The person you should talk to is Rbob. He is a moderator and (out of 27,000 members) one of the most knowledgebale people on computers and wiring here.

What you will want to do is go to the ECM interchange list and try to pick up an ECM from a donor car. Make sure that you get the connestors and 6 inches of wires with it. Than you need to find another GM donor car that used MPFI and take the fuel injector wires from it. Than go to the MAF to MAP swap and find the ECM pin out charts. Next you need to totally un-pin your old TBI harness from the lold connectors. Then using the new ECM pin charts rewire your TPI harness respectively. You will also need to visit the TBI to TPI swap int the tech articles (under misc. mod. I think) There are a few other things that you will have to change that the page will tell you as well as give you part numbers.
