Pulling 350TPI from '92 Formula

Allright...here's my situation.

I have a 1992 Firebird Formula with the L98 in it. It was wrecked three weeks ago, but the drivetrain remained untouched. I also have a 1972 Nova with no engine/transmission. How would I go about removing the 350 from my bird withOUT disassembling it?

Looked up the procedure in Chiltons and Haynes manuals.....both so to remove this, remove that, take off the air condition compressor, etc etc. But from my understanding, they are assuming you're going to rebuild the engine, in which case you'd have to disassemble it anyway. But in my case, I won't be disassembling it. So I ask...what is the proper was to remove the engine without taking it apart......I'd also like to keep the transmission attached, iff possible.

I also would like to know where to attach the chains to pull the engine out....can'e use a lift plate because the TPI system uses a different intake manifold than what a puller plate is used for.

Any help is appreciated. I'd especially like a website or book that has complete instructions. I've already bought a book on putting a 350TPI into a Nova, but I do not know if it covers removing the engine from the donor car.

Again, any and all help is highly appreciated.

Thanks!
Evan

There should be bolt at the front of the cylinder heads that the accesories attach to, in the back of the head there are bolt holes from the ground that you can run a bolt in. You would have to remove some of the accesories that are blocking the bolts/holes. You should be able to leave most things on, most of the time.

I will list the most important thing first: There is some grounds and wires attached to the back of the heads.. these will ened to be removed before taking the engine out.. if you yank them out.. you are going to be hurting..

The runners and plenum and tb come off pretty easy and can be put back on pretty easy.. just need a gasket set.

As for the rest.. ask me at a meeting or something and i or stan can show you how. =)

Maybe one of y'all would like to help me in the project? and as a reward, you'll get to drive it (and take some of the bragging rights )

I already have the throttle body off.....started removing the runners, but I could get to the lower back bolts.

i just did this

Ok , not much time....
I went a pulled the wirees from the charcoal canister. tranny speedo, and 4 prong harness. Also disconnect the 4 or 5 prong for the cooling fans.
Next pulll the computer carness, off the ccomp-, and stuff out through the fender. This will relieve the pass side of harness. Next remove the braided ground to the fire wall, and the exhaust tube, and tranny fill tube.
Next pull harnness plug from under the brake booster. MORE OR LESS, you should be able to motor and harness, to gether!!!!!!
very easy, i just did it, to my 1989 iroc motor. "see other posts on my name"
Gotta go. shawn

Re: Pulling 350TPI from '92 Formula

Couldn't you just unbolt the K-member disconnect everything attached to the engine and lift the car off of the engine tranny and k-member?

If the body is junk anyway I would think this would work. Take a close look before you leap and make sure you have the means to get the body up high enough to clear pulling the engine out.

Just a thought, like I said take a close look or talk to someone who has done this, before doing it this way.

Or get an engine tilter and pull the engine and tranny together. There should be somewhere to attach chains. Probably on the heads?

Tim.
